This is not a remake

The only thing this is taking from the original are the characters except for Charles Lee Ray.The entire original plot has been ditched. They've taken a classic and turned it into a generic killer robot movie.

They also think they can make up for no Dourif by getting some a-lister to voice the doll.Keep your a-lister Dourif is irreplaceable.

Both movies have Chucky and Andy. Both movies have Chucky trying to kill Andy. Both movies are called Child's Play. This film is a remake. Just because one character from the original film is removed, that doesn't mean this film isn't a remake.

Look at Texas Chainsaw Massacre, none of the characters from the original film are in the remake, except for Leatherface. But people still call the 2003 TCM a "remake".

Having Brad Douriff voicing Chucky will make this remake exactly like all the other Child's Play movies. When you remake a film, the remake does not have to be exactly like the original film idiot. You can remake something in any way you want. Otherwise, you would be making a shot for shot remake, like the 1998 Psycho.

Dourifs voice is as iconic as the doll itself.Anyone replacing him will be a step down. And Charles Lee ray isn't just some minor character. He was the most important character in the whole franchise. The main villain. The Chucky doll was nothing more than a disguise he wore.Like Jason's hockey mask.

And beyond the fact that it has the same characters and the doll is killing people the plot of this movie is entirely new and has nothing to do with the original.A remake isn't just about characters it's about story. This is why so many remakes are complete shit.Zero respect for the source material.

Dude, it's a remake.

reply

If anything i'd call it a reimagining. It strayed to far away from the plot of the original for me to call it a remake.

reply

So did the remake of cat people, the thing, and scarface. They're still remakes.

The thing 2011 is a prequel. Or were you meaning to the thing 1982 was a remake of The Thing From Another World 1951.

reply

The second one.

Remake!

reply

You can't hide from it. See! Right there -----> REMAKE!

I think I know the difference This is a Remake Bride of Chucky is a Reboot Thor Ragnarok is a Reboot

reply

Bride of Chucky is not a reboot. It's a sequel. Just like Halloween 4 5 6 are sequels. Halloween h20 is a reboot because it doesn't have jack shit to do with any of the sequels.

Bride of Chucky mentions Andy in a newspaper article in Tiffany's trailer. Which proves bride of Chucky is a sequel.

reply

but reboots are sequels that change lots of things not remakes that start the movies over

reply

I always thought of reboot as a term that tries to change the movie completely and tries to freshen up the franchise. Kind of like Rob zombies Halloween and Rob Zombies Halloween 2. Even though Rob called them a "reimagining" everyone knew it was a reboot. He just didn't want to be slapped with the reboot label.

reply

well why is the Thing a remake and not a Reboot and not a re imagining ?

reply

Remake means that a film is made after a previous film and is almost a copy of the previous film. Themes, thematic elements, and characters will be the same and have the same motivations. ... A reboot will often have different stylisic elements and will attempt to distance itself from the previous film.
I copied and pasted that from Google and I agree with that.

reply

ok yeah i just decided to look it up this is a reboot but is it? they are still going to make Sequels to Cult of Chucky so is this actually a Re imagining

reply

I think it's safe to say that child's play 2019 is a reboot/reimagining.. Jennifer Tilly wants nothing to do with it and I am not sure but I am assuming Brad Dourif didn't want anything to do with it as well. So the franchise will be split if they make another sequel after cult. Well it already is split. But let's be honest here...curse and cult both sucked. The franchise was stale and not able to get funding from a major movie studio. Like it or not child's play 2019 has done its job. It's brought the franchise back from the dead. People are talking about it..and it's opening up Chucky to new fans.

reply

Def a reboot. I saw Chuckster wearin new shoez.

Reboot and Remake are essentially the same thing. And a movie can be both. Reboot means you are trying to restart a franchise. If you remake a movie just with the intent to have a standalone remake then it remains a remake. If you remake the first movie in a series of movies with the intent to remake the whole series then its a reboot.

Like if they ever wanted to start Harry Potter over. It doesn't matter what story elements they kept or what they got rid of. As long as they recast everyone then its a reboot.

A remake usually applies to a standalone movie or temporarily the first movie in a franchise. If the franchise gets going then its a reboot.
