Maybe I missed something, but it sounds as if the dog med is a new prescription. Since this is the med that caused her leg muscles to atrophy, what was Mom using before? Earlier, she mentioned that "they stopped making (Zocor? Cholesterol med?), imagine that."

The mother just made up a lie for the new medication. That is what parents like this do. They claim one purpose for a medication when it does something different.

I didn’t think it was a new prescription. It looked like the Chloe sticker on the bottle was ragged from use when she peeled it off.
