If Rook Had Been Jewish or Muslim

If his character had been a poorly-informed Jew or Muslim, do you think they would've goofed on his religious faith as much?

Not particularly offended, just curious.

There's a scene where one of the SpaceX astronauts says something like, "How do you square science with Christianity?" Found it interesting that she specifically called out Christianity and no other faith.

reply

No. Also Tim Heidecker who is a self-proclaimed democratic socalist is one of the writers and producers also and HATES christanity.

reply

Apparently, Heidecker identifies as an atheist/agnostic. But weirdly, I came across this interview (about his film "The Comedy") where he seems to suggest that not having a connection to religion has made people less caring.

TH: There’s a generation of people I think without a strong connection to family, to religion, to civic duty. They have a real disassociation from the problems of the world.

reply

He was probably being ironic.

reply

I can't read his mind, but it seems odd to say that religion helps connect people in a positive way and then portray a character who's considered an idiot by everyone because he's religious.

As far as my initial point, I doubt that if the character was an Orthodox Jew he would've been played as a buffoon. Just seems like Christian characters are lampooned in a way that never happens with other faiths.

reply

Yup, thats Jewish Hollywood for you.
