Clever misdirection (spoilers)

-1st cutting his hand on the barbwire and sticking his hand in the dead German
-2nd tripwire getting set off and getting buried under the rubble
-3rd drinking suspicious pail of milk

In these 3 instances, we’re supposed to believe “this guy (Schofield) is gonna die”. Yet, Blake is the one who ends up being the one. Was that the intention they were going for?

reply

I don't know if it was the intention, but I did think he would be the one to die. But I guess I should have known, since it was the other guy's brother who they were going to save.

reply

Yeah, I believe it was the intention. I'd also add a 4th - when he falls and the same cut, dead Germanified hand sinks deep into the muck. Of course, that's after Blake's demise, but it made me think we would see a flash forward of him receiving a medal (because of the conversation he and Blake had about them), and only having one hand.

reply

I never thought he'd die because he's the main character, and this is a Hollywood film (and not a Hitchcock one!). Honestly nothing that happened in the movie was surprising, except for maybe Blake's death. The whole course of events felt pretty predictable.
