Indeed. Mendes is gunning for that 'Dunkirk' acclaim.

It isn't, but is shot to look like it is.

there are very long takes with a massive battle and coordination by many, many people that took 6 months of boot camp and rehearsals. It is VERY impressive.

IRIC, there's some really long historical movie made in Russia that was actually made with one continuous shot.

reply

Russian Ark.

reply

Yea, that's the one.

You should check out the film Russian Ark. It's an experimental historical drama, about 90 minutes, all one shot. I think they did it on the third take. Very impressive.

Edit: the way 1917 is filmed makes me think of the X files episode Triangle, set in real time it was done using four eleven minute single takes. I think, I may be wrong, they originally wanted one single take but because of the recording format that wasn't possible so they decided on the multiple long shots.

reply

pretty sure nope: from IMDB trivia:

Shot and edited to appear as a single long take that takes place in real time.

Filming began on April 1, 2019, and continued through June 2019

SECTIONS of the film were shot in and around Low Force, on the River Tees, Teesdale in June 2019

Isn't russian ark the only really true one shot take movie? or maybe there are others....

Victoria (2015). Great movie too.

reply

Wow, really? You'd think the marketing would bother to mention that.

reply
