Why does everyone...

Why does everybody seem to pretend that Lin-Manuel Miranda isn’t both the weakest singer and rapper in the production? Rap might be more subjective, but you can’t argue that his singing is good when he consistently fails to hit and maintain his notes throughout the production.

His rapping is nothing compared to Alexander Hamilton's, which can be heard on a very rare Edison cylinder recording.

I don’t think they pretend. I’ve not seen Hamilton, but I have heard several people say exactly that. He is not a good singer, but got the role since he wrote the show.

I wouldn't say that he's the weakest singer out there, but I agree that if he didn't write the shows he probably would not get cast. That being said, I think he is amazing in the writing department.

He is definitely not a singer. He has a high, squeaky voice. But a great movie, nonetheless.

He got the role for basically the same reason John Legend got the lead role in JCS Live, he was a major producer. A great singer in his case, but not nearly the right kind of singer for the title role of Jesus Christ Superstar. Heck, Legend didn’t even try the high notes (then again, all considered, perhaps that was a blessing).

I’ve been hesitating as far as watching Hamilton as I was put off by all the BS praise it got in regards to casting etc. But when I do watch I’ll try to fairly judge it on the music and overall production.

This entire show is little more than an ego trip for him. Let him enjoy his 15 minutes of fame while it lasts.
