The offside rule is really bad

get rid of it.

reply

It's a key rule... Without it, it would turn into volleyball with feet...

reply

That would ruin the game. It would be akin to removing the requirement that basketball players dribble the ball when the move.

reply

It would be akin to in basketball allowing the players to play zone position. The NBA made this rule because they wanted to artificially create star athletes who can sell jerseys but college basketball still allows this and the games are actually more rational and exciting because of it.

reply

That would make all the teams play über defensive when not having ball possession. You really want that instead?

reply

I'm Loling right now picturing that happening xd. I really dislike the rule(or at least how it affects the matches sometimes) but the game would be nonsensical without it.

reply

If there is a rule I ought to change is to disallow back pass through the half-way line. Just like in Basketball.

I strongly suspect it will encourage more offensive play.

reply

I think that would encourage the defenders to stay back during their team's attack in fear of counter attacks as midfielders are forced to make forward passes when not in good position...

Football is complex.. there are unintended consequences when rules are changed, because players and teams adapt...

reply

I think you're right. I just hate it when the ball already played in front of the opponent's goalkeeper then passed back ALL the way to the other keeper. That looks silly.

Especially when the attacking team is in advantage score wise, so they just hold on the ball possesion no matter what and wasting time in the process.

Today's football defense is really tight. Nobody can break through 2 or 3 defenders, let alone 5. More goals happens in set up pieces and corners than ever.

We need to clone Diego Maradona and give each country one version 😉

reply

So you want someone blocking the goalie the whole game? Nah mate you’re smoking crack.

reply

You have a blueline like in hockey - it works fine.

reply

Soccer is frustrating enough without this hindrance.
