So is this worth watching?

I've only read a quick overview and I'm trying to avoid reading more of the posts below. Honest opinions. Is it worth the time to watch Vivarium?

I enjoyed it a lot. Gives you a lot to think about regarding the nature of suburban life. It has no easy answers, and everything does not get tied up in into a nice bow at the end. Good thing is, if you are interested in explanations of the movie, there are quite a few on Youtube.

Go for it, I say. =) Cheers.

reply

I'd advise against it...
You'll have more questions than answers at the end...

And not interesting "thriller movie" questions, I mean annoying waste of time "plot hole questions"...

Questions like "WTF was a watching"

If you can tolerate the last 2 seasons of Black Mirror then this is will be the same experience but with more vague allusions to any explanation to what's going on.

The movie tries to sell itself as an abstract commentary on modern society. I get what they're trying to say but in the end it doesn't pay off for me. It's almost as annoying as Jennifer Lawrence's "Mother"

reply

If it's anything like the last two seasons of Black Mirror, then I'll pass.

reply

It's more like the middle seasons of black mirror. The last seasons were atrocious

reply

Only if you fast forward.

reply

Yeah, I fast-forwarded it - saw it in about 40 minutes, instead of a hundred. Even that felt like a waste of time.
Basically, this film is an allegory of some sort. You are not supposed to see it as a sci-fi film -

I'm still not sure how to interpret this allegory and, frankly, I don't much care for whatever hidden message this film pertains to contain.

reply

I liked it. It's a different type of movie. You can interpret it in several ways. I don't need things spoon fed to me. The cinematography is great, the actors were quite good. It was creepy scary and sad. But I was entertained! So yes I would recommend.

It's like taking some psychedelic research chemical and waiting; awkward but still compelling till you finally come back and think "WTF just happened?". The end results in a dire apathy towards ever having had hope for the hapless characters. It just happened. We get hints of what is occurring, but never any revealing insight, which either lends towards the air of the thing, or detracts from it for those who have a more curious desire.

I've watched it twice now. Good to watch a year or so later, but it's not really something I'd suggest to people. It scratches my itch, but it's certainly not for everyone. Helps to have a quantity of alcohol on hand, tho. :)

reply

Absolutely not. It's trash. And it knows it is.
