Now here's something different in the mainstream horror genre

It's something different in the mainstream horror genre than another ghost film, another readaptation of a book previously filmed, another pointless remake like Poltergeist, another found footage film or another sequel/prequel/reboot/remake of an already dead franchise like Saw or Elm Street.

I'm all for something different and new as in the mainstream lately i love Get Out (despite it's a thriller than a horror film) and Quiet Place as those were box-office smashes and proving audiences do something different in the mainstream genre than those things i mentioned.

This could be it.

Agreed. Sure would be nice to have a trailer soon since it comes out in July.

We need studios and filmmakers to take risks again on different things than another readaptation of a book, another remake of a classic horror film like Poltergeist, another ghost film, another found footage film or another sequel/remake/reboot/prequel to a dead franchise.

Get Out and Quiet Place took risks and paid off big time

It looks like Bait 3D...

I don't think so, more like Jaws meets Hard Rain and it's a good combination and a fresh concept of having alligators attacking people during a hurricane

reply

yeah sounds interesting

reply

I'll watch it.

This seems like just another iteration of the scary monster flick to me--more like all those movies you say you are tired of than the two recent ones you say you enjoyed.

reply

I'm cool with Sam Raimi producing so.. probably gonna watch this !

yay crocs

How is this different?

It's your standard thriller where you put people in a scary setting, add a scary creature or element, mix them together and crap out a summer flick.

Hurricane+Aligators=Crawl
Underwater lab+Sharks=Deep Blue sea
Plane+Snakes=Snakes on a Plane
Jungle+Dinosaur=Jurassic Park
Liam Neeson+wolves=The Grey
Lake+stupid people+Piranha=Piranha

I could probably do this all damn day.

Giving such a short, generalized description of a movie doesn't really do it justice.

There's some folks, and something threatening, and scary things happen!

Well yeah.

reply

It's more than enough description to stick this movie in the appropriate genre. And I'm not even saying the movie is bad, I'm just saying it isn't original at all.

It's like me claiming that my script about two cops with conflicting personalities forced to work together is a fresh original idea and not clearly a buddy cop movie.
