Misogyny/hostility (spoilers)

Kai's early line when he's talking to Ruth about the dog, which is openly suggestive and threatening. Shirley is patronising and dismissive of her throughout. Tom just wants to get her in bed, then gaslights and gets close to beating her. No wonder she gravitates towards Jade and Kippa. Is this a film about repression, or growing up and getting away? Or does the director not like Cornwall?
