So after returning from Cassidy's property, Bernice finds out that James is planning a scam and confronts him. He panics and drowns her in the bathtub thinking that he killed her and seems devastated with the situation as he doesn't seem to be a killer, just a drug addict desperate for money. She survives and tries to escape, but as she's too weak, he gets her back home and apologizes and says that everything will be ok. What does she do? Instead of playing along and try to escape as soon as possible, she confronts him again just to make sure hat this time he kills her properly. What was that about? I couldn't believe it!
And as desperate for money as James was, he was an art critic, he should have know better not to leave fingertips on the fake painting.
These two definitely made a nice couple!

The fingerprint was Bernice's, she touches the painting right after James has finished it, that's why James doesn't know. And James didn't want money, he wanted recognition, as a critic and as an artist, even though people don't know he's the artist.
