After finishing season 1, thought not as good as Vienna Blood, another recent historical mystery program.

Miss Scarlet can be kind of hypocritical, continually complaining about others doing things that she does herself.

Would have liked a bit more novelty in the storylines. Some period science maybe or other things more closely connected with the period.

So many rooms seem draped in a sort of haze. They're really overly enamored of that effect.

Some of the sets remind me of the ones from Dickensian. Wonder if they're re-using them.

Seemed odd that they never mention what year it is. In the mid-1880s I guess, but not really sure.

Would like to see the two principal characters drawn in a little more depth. A bit two-dimensional still.

By the way, how can they have grown up together when he clearly comes from Scotland and she does not?

Some of the villains are a little too easy to predict, especially in the two-part finale.

It was good to see Bonnie Prince Charlie from Outlander turn up here. His character (Rupert Parker) may be the most interesting one in the show, actually. The actor probably needs to get his own series.

Kate Phillips had a peripheral part in one episode of "The Alienist" TV series. The atmosphere on that series was also dark and hazy.

In Season Three's first episode, they showed birthdates for several characters caught in a raid on Scarlette's house, and I believe her birth year was given as 1856. Since she appears to be late 20s to mid 30s, I think your supposition as to date of the series is pretty close.

Very interesting, thanks!

The show just started its third season last week, and it's still pretty good as ever. It kicked off with the first episode showing how a younger Miss Scarlet got into being a detective, and how Wellington started out from being a homeless thief to being trained as a detective by Scarlet's father, who took him under his wing and trained him. That was nice and different to see. Also, Wellington got shot during a case last season, and this season he's being looked by Scarlet and her maid, while he recovers. Surprised to see so little about this show, since it's really good. And, yeah, it does have a unique, hazy look to it, bu that's what makes it stand out.
