What kind of idiot thinks up this kind of movie?

Seriously, a vertical prison would be hugely expensive and technically challenging, why not one person per cell at least? Oh, they have make up some ridiculous story about it. Dumb-de-dumb-dumb.

reply

Yikes. You should probably just stick to documentaries fella.

I love movies about Dystopian futures but this movie was ultimately pointless and yes, stupid. What a waste of time to watch it! Nothing was explained.
Was this pit construct some kind of giant sociological experiment by a totalitarian government? Was it created by aliens to study human behavior? Was it a holding place and punishment for heinous criminals who had their original memories wiped? Who or what is the "authority" and why would anyone in their right mind agree to go into such a place for a accredited degree? And exactly what message would be sent by returning the child to the very top level?
It reminded me a lot of The Cube. That was another pointless movie about a elaborate prison that had no explanations, no conclusions, uninteresting characters and an empty narrative.

I think that you are missing the point by trying to rationalize the background of the story. This isn’t about the science of the whole thing, it’s a philosophical parable.

reply

I'd say it's a philosophical farce but I'm interested in your point of view, as to the parable you're seeing. Please elaborate.

reply

Good for you for be interested in point of view! I am as well, I love seeing things another way than my own. The parable aspect for me is imagining yourself in this situation, not the logistics of it. What would your one item be and why? What does your item say about the kind of person you are. Each person’s item spoke of their character and how they viewed life in general. With fear? With knowledge? With compassion? When you decide to look for answers instead of staying on your ‘floor’ it’s dangerous, and the purpose might not be what you thought it would be. Sometimes you are on top of the world, sometimes you are scraping the bottom. Does it matter how you treat the people beneath you or should you only look out for yourself.

These are the kinds of questions that the film made me ask myself.

reply

it should have been a 30 minute Twilight Zone. Nothing in here screams FEATURE FILM length. we're so dumb

reply

Well that’s probably true, I LOVE the twilight zone. Only the campy early ones though.

reply

Movies like this are usually all visual metaphors for stuff. I used to enjoy that kind of thing, but I find new people so horrible, I don't even care what they're trying to tell me.

reply

ENTERTAINING IDIOTS...WATCHED THIS LAST NIGHT...IT WAS PRETTY DAMN GOOD.

reply

Everyone always complains about the lack of originality in cinema, but then they finally get it and always seem to complain about it.

This is exactly why there's endless sequels and reboots.

reply

Not exactly. Being original in itself doesn't make something interesting or good. This is not really original anyway, I bet you can find any number of these kind of fake techno prison break movies thought the years. Anything I saw sucked.

reply

Good point! There's are lots of types of music and books and movies that are interesting but also pure dreck.

reply

Ah yes, the classic "it's dumb/unrealistic, therefore the movie sucks" argument. The biggest pleb filter of all time.

reply

Exactly. Let’s take “never ending story” for instance. Totally unrealistic but it’s a nice cute neatly packaged story so people love it. This film was original and made you have to think about various aspects of it and society. People that film “dumb” should probably stick with the 10 fast and the furious remakes

reply

how else would you take a crap on someone below?!

(btw can't believe this movie went there.. LOL)
