How Disney is trying to erase Gina Carano from the Mandalorian

With only 7 episodes, Gina Carano has become the favorite human character in The Mandalorian. She refused to bend the knee to the woke mob, though, and the consequence is that Disney is trying to erase her from the series, so she can be adequately "cancelled" in future seasons.

If they actually fire Gina Carano, it will be another dark day--among many dark days we have already seen--for Star Wars fans and for Disney. It will also prove once again that Disney is actually a shitty company and has wandered far away from the house that Walt built.

Gina is awesome, both as a person and as a character on the show. If they get rid of her there's a good chance I'll just stop watching. I already think the show is only good, not great.

And she's a real MMA fighter. I'm really sick of those "strong badass females" that wouldn't be able to take down a 60 years old fat office worker who hasn't moved from the coach in the last three decades.

Of course, Gina Carano wouldn't have a chance against a professional male fighter in real life. But she can make it credible in the screen, and that's what matters.

To be honest, I don't have much hope. I think Favreau made his magic, as usual¹. And once he's done his job, he's gonna slowly be left aside, as well as Gina Carano. Disney is no land for middle aged white guys like him, or for chicks who don't bend the knee to the Woke Gospel.

¹ Favreau is basically the one who created the Marvel movies formula in Iron Man, and the one that created the classic Disney live-action remake formula in The Jungle Book

Indeed. Gina is a real-life bad ass. I used to watch her fight in EliteXC and Strikeforce.

Word on the street is that the Favreau and Kennedy factions are feuding inside of Disney. If that's actually the case, I certainly Favreau wins and that he doesn't even think of firing Gina.

BTW, it's known that a lot of Gina's movies aren't very good, but if you're a fan and haven't seen it already, consider watching Daughter of the Wolf. It's direct-to-video and not a big budget feature but I enjoyed it and thought it was above-average for her starring efforts.

I don't think Favreau is gonna be the final winner. Wokeness is strong in Disney. Think all the time they had to fire KK after the movies big failure, and to put somebody else to manage the TV series... she's still the big boss in Lucasfilm, though.

Thanks for the movie rec, I never heard of it before. Movies in snowy settings are a guilty pleasure for me, so I'm sure to watch it.

I hope that you're wrong, but you're probably right. My hope is pinned on the fact that more than anything else Disney likes money, and it's clear for all to see that the Kennedy vision for Star Wars is divisive and alienates a lot of potential paying customers, while the Favreau vision is appreciated by everyone and brings the fandom together.

Re: Daughter of the Wolf, keep in mind that it is a direct-to-video action movie so set your expectations accordingly, but like I said, I think it's an above average effort for the DTV arena. I'll probably even watch it again at some point. Also, very weirdly, Richard Dreyfuss is in it, and when I first learned that he was in the cast I was straight up like, "What the fuck is Richard Dreyfuss doing in a Gina Carano movie?" But there he is.

Companies are managed by people. And managers in modern big companies don't risk their own money.

If you had to enforce your beliefs with your own wallet, you'd think twice about it. Executives can enforce their beliefs without risking their own money: they're risking the company's one. The company goes down? they just jump to the next company.

Don't worry about the direct-to-video stuff, I love low budget movies as long as they're good fun. I often recommend Bloodsucking Bastards (2015), you can't get more low-budged than it, and it's still one of the funniest movies I've seen last years.

She's going to lose her career because of her political beliefs? Not even that - that she doesn't echo the political beliefs of others?

That's literal discrimination.

Also is she really someone you want on the other side if there's a civil war? What are these people thinking?

reply

It's so petty, certain factions are jealous because she's popular and her merch sells, they are probably sore over the reception they got over their High Republic videos getting thousands of down votes on the Star Wars YouTube channel too!

She's not going to let you sniff her butt. So stop crawling around after her.

It's because Lucasfilm still hasn't learned their lesson and have a radical ideologue leading the studio. Why does politics have to infect everything. It gets exhausting.
