Mandalorian is the saddest, stupidest bounty hunter there is

OK, so what's this guys MO? And I'm talking about before he met Yoda and decided to BAIL out LOL. He's using all of the bounty on his armor. It's like he's paid in gold, so he melts the gold to forge himself a golden cuirass. It doesn't make any sense. He's not allowed to take his helmet off, because I guess that's cool and Judge Dredd does it LOL (though both Jango and Bobba had no trouble in taking it off, and this show was originally marketed as the "Bobba Fett live action show"). So where's the fun in that? He puts his life on the line to serve all sorts of scumbags and then instead of enjoying the spoils of his dangerous line of work, he acts like some sort of frustrated incel. Well, I guess that "this is the way" LOL. Plaster over all plot holes with it :D

Since you missed every bit of nuance and history exposition that explains your complaints, I'd suggest leaving this series for the grown-ups and children with basic comprehensive skills.

I wish so much I was wrong, because I love SW and have nothing against Jon Favreau, but the show leaves much to be desired I'm afraid.

"Plot hole" is one of the most overused terms on discussion boards. With some people every damn thing is a plot hole. Of course most of the time that covers an objection they could answer for themselves. If only they applied a little thought.

If you were in a dangerous line of work like that, and you could purchase yourself a suit of body armor that was expensive as hell but made you the next best thing to invulnerable to small arms fire and shrapnel wounds, would that not be a wise investment? If he's not happy about handing over a baby to some sleazy guy who's probably planning to do bad things to it - and doesn't feel much like kicking back and relaxing - how does that make him an incel? It just proves he has a conscience.

There's nothing wrong with saying you don't enjoy a show. Nothing will be to everyone's liking. You don't have to justify your personal taste by coming up with flaws (real or imagined) to explain it.

It would help if you studied the history of the Mandalorians, and how their traditions changed over the millennia. Studying their culture and how it's changed over time would help too.

I played the Bounty Hunter storyline on Star Wars the Old Republic, which takes place approximately 3,700 years before Episode I. (I only know this because the original Knights of the Old Republic game took place 4,000 years before Episode I, and SWTOR takes place 300 years after that). Anyway, Mandalorian Bounty Hunters were not strict about the helmet thing until recent history. It also depends on the individual Mandalorian, what clan they came from, and if they started out as a Mandalorian. Each clan has their own rules on how to do things, as opposed to the Mandalorians as whole. Not everyone adopts the strict "don't take the helmet off" rule, as you have seen. It's probably a rule imposed by the clan who took our protagonist in.

According to my brother, he says this series takes place right after Return of the Jedi, so that means people haven't had time to really recover from the Empire's cruelty just yet. As you saw with the old general who asked for the Baby Yoda, there are still remnants of the Empire's people skulking around.

He told me that during the time of the Empire, the Mandalorians refused to bow to them, so the Imperial army was sent in to do a purge, killing millions of Mandalorians and ransacking their planet for resources. This caused many Mandalorians to go into hiding, which is why our protagonist's people were hanging out in an underground set of apartments on that planet. It was a survival strategy they adopted when going into hiding. Most remained in the hideout, with only one member leaving at a time to go out and do stuff, so to hide their numbers from the local population. That might also explain why many still follow the "don't take your helmet off in public or in front of strangers" routine.

There's still a lot that hasn't been revealed in the series yet, so it's a little premature to write off the story right now after just 4 episodes.

Great explanation and interesting background info.

It doesn't say it, but these people seem like a warrior religion.

For instance, there's all kinds of Jews. Some are really bizarre. They make women shave their heads, but wear a wig, the guys have odd haircuts, wear bear skins hat that don't fit, they have to have sex through a hole in a sheet, and all kinds of crazy shit some nut made up. There's other jews who go to church, don't know much about the religion, and use it for social connections and so on.

This is ON EARTH.

On this show, the Mandalorians have the customs they talk about, because those are their customs. It's not a plot hole. A plot hole regarding characters is when they do something they would be very unlikely to do because the writer couldn't figure out a better plot. So, if Boba Fett showed up and said all this stuff about his helmet, etc that would be a plot hole to fit him into the plot of this show.

Also, on this Earth, there were knights who were like celibate priests. They fought because they thought god wanted them to because they were part of a cult. So, the guy in this story may shun all profit to improve him armor because that's his sacred duty, etc.

This is creative stuff. Don't ruin your enjoyment by comparing it all to Boba Fett. They are trying to do interesting "world building" and Boba Fett was a very boring character. So, they need to make that better now.

In his defense, i also thought this was gonna be "Boba Fett Origins". But, as you said, Boba Fett was a very one-dimensional and unlikeable character, so the way the show goes is for the better.

Disney+ has some great cartoons that may be more your speed. You won't have to pay attention or think or anything. You can laugh when Goofy falls down and you won't miss a thing.

reply

Think of the mandalorians as samurai, honour and all that , i get the show and an really enjoying it , they cannot be seen by anyone hence why they dont remove there helmets , its like a religion

reply

I can't get past the whole helmet thing as being a major hygiene issue.

reply

He takes it off when he's alone, idiot.

reply

Well, aren't you emotionally involved in a TeeVee series that is a spin-off from a movie targeted at 12 year old boys!

Wait a second, isn't it actually a spin-off from a cartoon in 'The Star Wars Holiday Special'?

How sad.

:o)

reply

So, you're just here to troll. At least you admit it. You can piss off!

reply

Well, sort of.

I'm actually here to troll the feckless employees that monitor these boards on behalf of the major multinational corporation that drove the franchise off the rails by going 'Woke!'.

You just ran into the line of fire by accident - my bad, apologies.

reply

The Mandalorian has been a massive course correction so far. Favreau is bringing legit Star Wars back from the grave. The Rise of Skywalker should be your target.

reply

I actually hope you're right, but I'm suspicious.

It's Disney after all, and I suspect that they're attempting to lure back the viewer base for a couple of seasons, then go off-road 'Woke!' with their old tricks by season 3, if not sooner.

What they've done with The Mandalorian thus far is to prove that they can get it, and give the fans what they want and deserve - which means that they could have done it all along with the movies.

My biggest, and perhaps only, bitch with the movies is that they could have retired the old characters with dignity, or at least given them a heroic death.

From a story perspective with Holdo, an arguably disposable character that took the death that Akbar earned, it reached the height of absurdity.

With the social media chatter concerning Episode IX, it's now become a farce.

Sadly, I will not be surprised if that sort of fuckery will arise in The Mandalorian.

So you’re butthurt? Sad sad person, I must hate on opinions and people that dislike my opinion, haha loser

reply

that’s because you’re simple and probably need things spelling out for you

reply

I can't help but notice that you're using the word 'you're' correctly today.

I'm proud of you, well done.

You're a funny one.
