Star Wars is for kids it used to be great in the 70’s/80’s.

But you grow out of it. Why are adults still bothered about it now?

reply

Adults want kids to have good new Star Wars not the Democrat propaganda Disney made, that's why.

reply

Adults show kids the amazing original films and move on. It’s the entitled adult kids that want new Star Wars.

reply

Nuh uh! Is not, stupidhead!

reply

"Adults show kids the amazing original films and move on"
to better science fiction and fantasy...

reply

They won't even do a proper release of the OT.

reply

That’s annoying i thought they did it on dvd.

reply

They're not the original, theatrical versions. Lucas added a lot of CGI crap. I'm not even an actual 'fan' and I refuse to watch that shit.

reply

I agree the movies are lackluster, but I fail to see how they are "Democratic propaganda". That's one of the most asinine things I've ever heard.

reply

Good kids movies can be equally entertaining to adults. In fact kids tend to only like the same type of story structure that adults like giving evidence to the claim that some of these structures are ingrained into the physiology of our cultural psyche. This is why as an adult with kids I can still go back and enjoy the classics and kids tend to not respond well to the same things adults don't like.

Of course there is usually a target audience for the film type but all types of movies tend to follow a structure. The films that attempt to undermine this structure typically do not do well with adults or children.

reply

Exactly. It’s entitled old men claiming their lives are ruined by new Star Wars.

reply

Don't get me wrong, the new star wars films are utter garbage and i am somewhat sad by the fact I won't go to see new star wars movies at the theater with my kids. I think most are just expressing this same disappointment, maybe over zealously. I comment here to sort of vent that disappointment. I think most were expecting a different product and were not happy with the results. The customer is entitled to complain about a product they purchased and did not like, but I would not recommend going crazy over it.

reply

To be fair i thought the last jedi was the best star wars film since the originals but i’m a casual fan so each to their own.

The critics agreed with me though. I think too many real fans read too many books in desperation between films, whilst i just waited for the film as a casual one eyebrow raised fan.

reply

You Reylo shipping assholes are worthless.

reply

What’s a Reylo?

reply

Rey and Kylo romance.

It's easier for casual fans and critics to like The Last Jedi since you're more likely to not get all the inconsistencies that it contained.

reply

Thats cos real fans be cray cray
When you were 8, and saw the original '77 film on VHS . you didnt analyse every millisecond , every pixel , every line , every action , every ad infinitum
..like the psychotic obsessives you are now.

if I was a Star Wars film I'd fear for my life because one of the obsessed fans is bound to take me to a cabin in the woods and murder me to preserve the reputation of the best work.

reply

That's not what I meant. Johnson didn't understand anything about the Star Wars story or characters so he made up things instead of doing research. Pure laziness on his part.

I know a casual fan who saw Last Jedi and loved it but asked me who Luke was. Of course, she's going to enjoy the film because she didn't have a basic knowledge of the characters or story.

reply

That’s my point though there’s so much filler between the films with all the books and video games that some superfans can’t just enjoy the films. And i’ve heard there’s like 200 books so there’s definitely no consistency in that lot.

reply

I disagree. I've read plenty of the books and played the videos games. There was plenty of consistency. Lucas used a "Star Wars Bible" that EU writers were supposed to use as reference to keep everything consistent.

Solo and Last Jedi were horrible. The other films are OK, but they lack Lucas' creativity and storytelling.

reply

I have to agree some of the games were good, especially Pod Racer. But the books were submitted by fans. No creativity from Lucas.

reply

Lucas is a control freak and perfectionist so he was likely very hands-on. The books were written by professional writers but likely had his permission, input or general story direction. For instance, the Thrawn trilogy is about the major characters after the Empire falls so that sounds like it would need Lucas' permission. Ditto Darth Plageius book. Lucas approval also for games which costs millions to make. It sounds like he had script approval for the live action TV show he was working on too.

Even the prequel DVDs have Lucas' mark on them. Many cool features and nicely packaged for the fans. Compare to the lackluster DVDs we get from Disney.

reply

If you're just going to discard the canon, why not start something completely new?

A gen-x family member was a big fan of the series. I never struggled to think of gifts for him because the Expanded Universe books were constantly coming out. He invested a lot of time & bought into the emotion behind the stories. You could say he "read too many books". But I can't agree with your implication that this was some sort of failure on his part.

reply

While I do agree that the fans are a bit over the top with there reaction to the plummeting quality of the star wars series and that the last jedi as bad as it was was at least better than the Force Awakens; Disney era star wars has been a complete disappointment that has killed all interest in the IP for myself and many others. Not even the prequels as bad as they were killed the interest like this. But I think rather then 'our' endless ranting we OT fans seem to be doing, it might be better just to leave it behind and take our interest ( and money) somewhere else.

reply

Fair comment. I actually loved Last Jedi though.

UTTER GARBAGE IS HYPERBOLE TO THE MAX....THEY ARE MEDIOCRE,UNDERWHELMING,NOT GOOD EVEN....UTTER GARBAGE IS JUST EXAGERATION.

reply

you have a caps lock button you should use it more appropriately.

reply

LMAO....YOURE ONE OF THOSE...PASS.

reply

in English please?

reply

NO....NOT WORTH IT...MOVE ALONG.

reply

I've also asked about the caps lock. It's a power trip, ignore him. If someone completely ignores accepted social expectations, even online, they are doing it for attention or they are rude.

reply

Your whole premise is bullshit.

reply

Becuase of nostalgia, plus adults find it fun

reply

The original two SW were not for kids. They were for teens and young adults. Lucas put elements into the third film and Phantom Menace to attract kids which is why the films are the worst of each trilogy. Better to write a good story rather than pander to little kids to sell toys.

reply

I agree i shouldn’t have said the original Star Wars films are for kids.

reply

George Lucas said explicitly that "Star Wars is a film for 12-year-olds."

reply

Unfortunately, Lucas lies. He has repeatedly contradicted himself too. How does it make sense that he warned parents against their children watching Revenge of the Sith, but said that Phantom Menace was for children? Watch part 1 but not the conclusion? Jarjar, 9-year old Anakin and Ewoks aren't even relatable to a 12-year old.

In 1977, the people who stood on those hours long lines were not 12 year olds. They were teens and young adults. Ditto 1980 and 1983.

He also tricked Hamill, Fisher and Ford to sign for three movies by not telling them that he was selling the franchise to Disney. He also tricked Kennedy.

reply

Well personally I think it's a film series that appeals to all ages. Shit like the Ewoks are clearly directed at kids. But certainly many of the themes of the series are very adult.

reply

Absolutely. Most people didn't like the prequels, but I thought the underlying theme about how a democracy becomes a dictatorship was interesting.

reply

I get shit for saying this, but I think the prequels are more interesting than the original trilogy. It's nice to see the Star Wars universe in a pre-apocalyptic state before the Empire has taken over, and Lucas was wrestling with some big ideas in those films.

Since you like the prequels, you should check out this documentary:

reply

SW fans whine too much. They weren't always like this.

I like the concept of the Republic in the prequels and The Old Republic in which there are many Jedi and Sith at war with each other.

Lucas put his soul into the SW movies. We're not going to get the themes, visuals, experimentation and big ideas that Lucas bought to them anymore. At least I still have plenty of Lucas era EU novels to read.

reply

And especially timely these days, as you see what's going on around the world. It can happen faster than you think. In places you never thought possible.

reply

"n 1977, the people who stood on those hours long lines were not 12 year olds, They were teens and young adults."

riiight , I was in junior school when the trading cards were being passed around, and couldnt wait to see the film, along with literally everbody in the school.
I would have been 8

reply

I didn't say kids didn't see SW. I wrote that Lucas didn't target it for them. Most people on line were teens and young adults, not parents with their 7 and 8 year old kids. The main hero in the movie was in his early 20s. An SW theme like Nazi Germany and genocide are not kid-friendly.

You can see for yourself:

reply

Thats because the main demographic of cinemas is "teens and young adults"
pick any film the line will be the same
(except obviously explicitly kids films like Finding Nemo etc)

reply

Exactly. Teens and young adults will repeatedly pay to see a favorite movie which means more money. But Lucas sometimes says the movies were originally made for young children.

reply

Adults are WAY more passionate about sports teams, and we are literally talking about grown men playing games.

reply

It was never exclusively for kids, it was able to appeal to both kids and adults. (The Godfather was just for adults, your average Disney movie is just for kids)
