Dickies Death…

Yeah we all knew what happened, even when “The Soprano’s” was on HBO then, we had a general idea, but little did we know the exact truth. My question is this, it’s clear that nobody then, Tony, Silv, Paulie, Pussy, probably even Johnny Soprano his brother knew the deal.

I’m saying this because as you all know you need permission to go on & kill a made man. You need to have a sit down & a reasonable reason as to why when you bring your petition to your family. Whether it’s business, he’s a rat, a threat, he made threats, etc. Since of course it’s apparent nobody knew, I have to assume that Junior did this on the sly, by going to nobody & telling no one. That would be his ass right there if anybody EVER found out about it.

Well I could be totally wrong about this mind you but this is what I’m guessing. Who the hell are you going to approach & ask permission to kill a fellow made man because he laughed at you when you slipped & fell down some steps? They’re going to think that you’re batshit crazy. You think anyone in the family is going to say “Ok sure” because of THAT? What do you all think?

I'm calling a plot hole here since we learned in the TV series that Dickie was killed by a cop

reply

That's what Tony told Chris. He could have been full of shit.

I tend to agree with you though.

reply

So we are to believe that Tony lied to Chris, despite having no motivation to do so and wanted some innocent cop killed after his retirement party?

reply

I agree with you. Unless Tony had some other reason for wanting that cop killed by Chris, the continuity between the movie and the show is broken. If Tony wanted the cop dead, he would have told Chris why.

reply

The movie was a mess. In the flashback scenes during the series, they make it like Tonys dad and uncle ran everything. Yet in this one, its all Dickie and Tonys dad and uncle are more of an afterthought

reply

His motivation was to buy Christophers loyalty. Tony knew Chris would be grateful and owe him for life.

I watched this film with family recently and someone suggested that it's possible Sal, Dickie's uncle in prison(his father's surviving twin brother) ordered the hit on Dickie to keep him away from Tony and not corrupt him---to say nothing of perhaps wanting to avenge his brother. Sal gave the order to Junior, who gave it to whoever the trigger man was.

Thoughts?

Nah, it was June all the way bud. You know what a prick he is, & even I was surprised that he’d kill over a guy thinking him falling down was funny. Not that Dickie ever wished him any harm but Junior is one to hold a grudge. He would be that kind of an ass to go & do something like that but who knows.

Was Sal, Ray Liotta’s character? What would he know or care about Tony to go on & do something like that for? Plus I don’t think he has no pull with anybody with him being in prison for life or he’d help himself you know so know I don’t think that was it.
