standard time travel art theft trope

You know when peopl go back in time , and then pretend they wrote all the good songs?
Thats what this looks like.
However you're not allowed to create music these days , unless its that washed out bland RnB rubbish , or Simon Cowell has made it for you in his music sweatshop.

reply

Music has been beyond bland for over twenty years thanks to manufactured pop acts made 1000 times worse by Simon Cowell shows and many others like it. The internet hasn't helped much either, there are unique bands out there but they never seem to get enough exposure, in the mainstream it’s just RnB rubbish and girls dressed like hookers singing bland crap.

reply

How about K Pop? That stuff seems like it's way more Product than Art.
BTS Hey, I like the guy with the dyed hair !

reply

Hollywood can't do anything original anymore. It's all superheroes, reboots, time-warp pop song thefts, and unnecessary sequels.

reply

You're just talking about blockbusters, but plenty of original movies still get released.

reply

How many other "time-warp pop song theft" movies have there been? I've never seen one.

reply

Hot Tub Time Machine

"Chuck, Chuck! It's Marvin! Your cousin, Marvin Berry! You know that new sound you were looking for? Well listen to THIS!"

reply

Peggy Sue Got Married (1986). Peggy Sue goes back in time and decides to rip off The Beatles' song "She Loves You".

reply

Yeah yeah yeah.

reply

This looks pretty original.

"However you're not allowed to create music these days"

Tell that to Trent Reznor, he'll laugh and shake his head.

reply

fair point . "Underground" is an over used term with music , but these days more than ever you really have to go looking for music that isnt the sort of stuff that will have pranced in front of simon cowell and begged for a contract.
You wont hear it on the radio, most of your friends wont have heard it.

What i mean is music is more under the tyranny of "manufactured pop shite" than it ever was ,possibly with the exception of the boy band epidemic of the 90s.

reply

Well, except there wasn’t any time travel in this movie.

Come to think of it - I’m not sure I’ve seen enough time travel art theft trope type films to categorize this one as “standard.”

Come to think of it - I can’t think of any time travel art theft films off the top of my head.

well Marty McFly rips off Chuck Berry in bttf

reply

Well, in a hard-to-logically-figure-out-way there was time travel in this…forward.

The remains of one John Lennon were no longer and he was alive and well. (Not to mention probably millions of other humans across the globe)

reply

2 tropes in one!
