Seemed like a mixup of other better movies.

Definitely heavily borrowed from David Lynch's monochrome nightmare Eraserhead. Then there was the cinematography and even Patterson’s clothing lifted straight from ‘There will be Blood’. I also kept thinking of “Brokeback Mountain”.

Funny parody on YouTube “Brokeback Lighthouse”

The Shining too...as well as Psycho

Also looks like a remake. 2016 version

That’s crazy. I never knew there were two.

IMDB reports they are based on the same story.

“ Both movies are based on a true story that happened around 1900 at Smalls Lighthouse.in the UK. Both movies change the storyline a bit from the original true story.”

I didn't see that either. I had no ideal it was based on a true story. I wonder if drugs were involved. Lol

Besides Eraserhead, it also reminds me of Ingrid Bergman’s Persona, and the screaming mermaid reminds me of Dagon.

The end is rather like the ending of Mulholland Drive. Everything before the end was the dream of a dying person.

You should really edit this comment. Major name goof in there.

Yeah I found to to be quite derivative of the movies mentioned, and it threw in some Greek mythology for good measure, but lacked any real substance.

The poster above seemed to think that this was the fever dream of a dying man, but I don’t see any evidence to support that.

reply

Yeah the above poster has a superficial take on this, evidenced also by the presumption Mulholland Drive is just "the dream of a dying person". Like or dislike the Lighthouse, that's clearly not what's happening in this movie.

Dagon reference is also a bit forced.
