Regular guy, not an artsy film guy

And I really wasted my time watching this movie. i'm a fan of both actors, liked the idea, but no a million times over. There were nearly zero redeeming qualities for an average movie goer. I'm not here to watch a 2 hour long piece of interpretive art, I want to watch an enjoyable story.

I think I can see why some might like it for what it was, but it's not for me or other viewers like me, just wanted to shed a different viewpoint.

You are not alone bro.
Strong performances by the actors, great visuals, but a boring story.
It's not for everyone that's for sure.

what was the point?

You are not alone. It's just boring

I feel your pain. If you ever want to watch real arty movies, which this wannabe tries and fails to imitate, check "Through a Glass Darkly" and "Hour of the Wolf" by Ingmar Bergman. You suffered thru The Lighthouse, then you can suffer thru these too, but at the end the suffering will be meaningful to you. Your body and mind are ready now.

So what's the story, was it 'Brokeback Lighthouse' or something?

reply

Not quite, the two hated each other. Without a spoilers, a guy goes to work on a small island light house with an old sea dog. They don't really get a long and go about their business. One or both might be going a little crazy. A storm comes in and he has to stay out longer than planned. That's when stuff starts to get serious.

Read spoiler for more info that doesn't give it all away but is more specific so I spoiler tagged it.
Young guy killed or saw someone die at his old job and took over his identity. Old man finds out when they're drunk one night. They attempt to kill each other towards the end.

The acting was good, the story would have been fine if it were like a 30 minute short film, it was way too drawn out and ultimately pointless.

Yeesh! Sounds like they were married or something. Thanx!

reply

Fair enough. I thought the story was quite engrossing...

This film is actually based a on true story of a tragedy at the Smalls lighthouse in Wales in the late 1700's. There is a "less artsy" British version of this movie released in 2016. I personally have seen both and prefer the 2016 version

So the rest of us who enjoyed it can scratch our asses? Sorry dude, the world wasn't just made for you. Maybe next time you could read a few reviews so we don't waste our time having to listen to a regular guy whine.
