My only complaint...

When he called the black people negros. I didn't think it was an innocent slip of the tongue. I thought 'this guy is a shit stirrer'.

The dykes comment was funny as they called themselves dykes, and it's one of those 'we can use that word but you can't' scenarios, kind of like how black rappers say nigga.

But this time I just felt like he was purposefully stirring the pot. It didn't really work for me on a comedic level either.

Sense of humor was never SJW's strong suit.

He was a 90 year old man that didn't know any better.

reply

No filter - worn out ;-)

reply

It was Clint's way of giving the finger to PC-ness. By using a word that was once completely mainstream, not negative and totally acceptable, but now is not.

reply

I think this is the best comment I've heard on the subject.

reply

I kind of agree with you, but Clint was making a point about words being okay for one generation, but verboten for the next. It clearly bothers him, and it's his movie, so he gets to do that, whether we agree or not.

reply

He admitted to Cooper's character that he never thought he'd had a 'filter'

reply

It was his age. Back in his day, the word Negro was commonplace and accepted. It didn’t become offensive until after. The exchange highlighted his disconnect with the contemporary customs.

reply

No, he's clued on and with it. He gets a rise out of calling black people Negros and getting free passes from people like yourself.

reply

Well, Earl was helping those people out so you can judge him by a harmless yet inappropriate word he used or his deeds.

Also, redban is right. A guy that age wouldn't feel the words he used to be derogatory.

reply

Why would you think he’s clued on and in with it? The movie made a point of stressing his disconnect with modern society (e.g. - doesn’t know how to text). The word Negro was commonplace in the 1960s, with even politicians using the word during formal speeches.

reply

The only “shit stirrer” here is a racist race-baiting piece of shit named “Intothenight”.

Congrats, dipshit.

reply

Would a shit stirrer stop to help someone on the side of the road to begin with?
