Yes I enjoyed it. The theater was so packed we had to sit in the last back row.

I really liked it too. I knew I wanted to see it in the theater, I sure should have

Agreed. It's way better than the ratings make it be. It deserves 6.5 on Imdb.

reply

exactly. I thought it was pretty decent.. few flaws but not nearly as bad as most reviews say.

reply

I too was surprised. It reminded somewhat of Carrie too.

I thought it was weak. IMDB often has good modern horror movies rated lower than how I see them but in this movie's case I think the rating is right, if not too high.

The teenage protagonists were annoying and unlikeable. I never gave a hoot about them when they were in danger. And it seemed rather pointless to even have that girl as the lead character in this. It didn't serve much relevance for her to be the main focus. Maybe if they fleshed her character out, or gave her a backstory where she could perhaps relate to Ma and her teen years. But no, she moves to a new area and quickly becomes typical annoying teenager number 5.

They could have fleshed out Ma too to be honest, or better build up her character into a villain. It was funny how she went from being a mentally unhinged mother with personal demons one minute, into being a serial killer the next with a fetish for torture. I just didn't buy that. It's like the writers realised they weren't making her crazy enough with 25 minutes to go so suddenly upped the ante and had her go on a killing spree, when I think the worst she had committed before that was steal some jewellery.

Octavia acted the part well though and was probably the best thing in it.
