Another Get Out?

seems similar.

reply

The movie title seems to suggest the opposite.

reply

the visiting part.

reply

Not close. I am watching it tonight, but from what I hear, it's way different from what you see in the trailers.

reply

I may watch it tonight also.

reply

It's not a horror movie, so that is one big difference.

reply

not close at all. more like david lynch or ingmar bergman (plus the talkativeness of some richard linklater films).

reply

This was better.

reply

heavy on the dialogue.

reply

Yes, but it switches between a mild horror, fantasy, comedy and drama quite nicely. I was never bored.

reply

Just finished watching it and I want to watch it again.

reply

I saw it this morning. I'll watch it again eventually.

reply

never again

reply

Never again because you didn't like it, or you thought it was good just not enough to watch it again?

reply

i hated it. not my thing.

The entire movie(spoilers) is about Jake, a socially awkward guy who is dying. As he dies he is thinking about a girl he wanted to talk to at a trivia contest, but never does. In the movie he thinks of what if he gave that girl his number, what if he took her home to meet his parents and then he goes through different personas of her to see which one is best suited for him. It's an eerie trip, where the janitor is dying and thinking of what could have been. I understand that it isn't everyone's thing, but I enjoyed the hell out of it and will be watching it more.

How can anyone enjoy watching an old fart dying alone while regretting his fruitless life? I guess I am not as transcendent as you are.

reply

Guess not. But something to think about when you are an old fart.

reply

Well, I'll try to think about it when I get amnesia. Hopefully, by then I won't remember you and your comments.

reply

Amnesia? I have no idea what you are saying.

I feel this kind of thing is really individualistic. If you FEEL it, its really cool. I GOT the feeling, and respect what it did, and it did it fine, but OVERALL, the package sort of let me down by being such a small story. There are hundreds of ways they could have used that 2 hours better, but that's not this story. So, yeah, [SPOILERS already stated] old fart dying alone is really not very "movie worthy".

Never the less, some will enjoy it'd delivery and thing its the new sliced toast. It did what it needed to just fine, but.... meh.... there's not a lot there to invest your two hours in, movie-wise.
It's a 30 minute twilight zone concept.

reply

I think that when it comes to be your time to go, you may feel differently about the regret you carry as you lay dying. Just something to ponder.

reply

I'm actually old, and do get it, as I live alone and no relationship. But, very sure this is not something I would choose to watch when I am at deaths door. Kinda the LAST thing I would want to watch. Just choices in life. We ARE what we eat, mentally, emotionally, pshycially, spiritually....

reply

I guess I just have a darker side than you. I was fascinated with how dream-like this movie was. I was really impressed with that. Also, I feel that things that are universally lived are interesting. Some people don't want to face the inevitable and I understand that. I on the other hand, eat that up. It just interests me.

reply

is cool. Like what you like. :)

reply

I like Charlie Kaufman's work. I watched this film twice to fully understand it. It is an unpleasant journey for me to get into that old janitor's mind who is suffering from amnesia and thinking of ending his life. Is this supposed to be enjoyable or cool? Maybe not. Maybe the audience supposed to get upset or even outraged about old people dying alone. Have we become numb to death?

I use the word "old fart" in the discussion with modica only because from her interpretation that's how little the janitor character is.

The problem with movies these days is that some are enjoyable, popcorn fare; while others are artistic. With artistic films or with any art, what is presented isn't always pleasant. Here, you didn't like it, but it still made you feel something. Something that you don't want to face maybe? Or it could just be something that angers you. Whatever it was, it made you ask questions and that is what art does. You still may not completely accept what I am saying due to the fact that you were really put off by the movie. That is fine. That is your reaction and you should be able to feel however you see fit. Maybe years from now, you could rewatch and feel differently...or not.

reply

if he is dying why is he still working? should he not be retired?

reply

I think that part of it is him reliving his work life also. In a dream, time isn't measured.

reply

i was wrong.

reply

During the movie I also got Get Out vibes, so you weren't totally wrong. The car trip, visit to in-laws, in-laws bring weird and creepy, and a weird scary atmosphere.

reply

This is vastly superior to Get Out.

reply

Agree, but more people will like Get Out. That's the way of the world.

reply

Sure but this one will stand the test of time and end as a cult classic.

reply

Probably...

reply

The first half (especially the parents' house) reminded me more of Mother!

reply

It felt like Get Out at first, but it turned out to be surreal and lychian
