It's not something I'll be able to keep up with until it hits a streaming service since I don't have cable, but the first episode was great. It seems to maintain the same quality as the movie and the new cast of vampires are great. The humor is hilarious and I can't wait to see where it goes from here. It might actually end up working better as a show than a movie to be honest.
Yep it was well done and much like the Australian TV show Wilfred did changing locales the transition to a US setting rather than a New Zealand one offered up other possibilities for the storyline, interestingly Wilfred was on FX as well. Be interesting to see if this US version gets a spin-off and they make a USA version of the Wellington Paranormal series eventually which is about the Police Department and Officers that investigate in the Vamps house in the New Zealand Movie).
All up good first episode and yeah looking forward to watching the series.
I'm not sure if it already is or not, but I thought I heard Wellington Paranormal was in the same universe already. There's also talks of a mockumentary film about the werewolves from What We Do In The Shadows.
Yeah Wellington Paranormal is in the same Universe as the New Zealand Film, not sure about the USA Series though, however they are calling the USA series a spin-off of the movie so if Cops come into the US series may get a US based version of Wellington Paranormal (Staten Island Paranormal?).
I wouldn't call it awful considering it's a mockumentary type of show. If something like Breaking Bad was filmed this way I'd agree with you because it's a completely different type of show. Other than that, I think it makes it feel more authentic. Especially since it's kind of a companion piece to the movie of the same name.
It wouldn't be on TV if people didn't watch the genre. Just because a couple shows and movies didn't do so well, doesn't mean it's the style that did them in. It could have been that they just weren't very entertaining.
I'm not sure that many people watch this show. And how many other shows of the same genre are there at the moment? I don't think it's a stretch to conclude it has worn off. It doesn't say anything about the quality of the show itself, of course , but it surprises me anyone would still choose this format.
Also, the easy gimmick of one character silently staring into the camera as a reaction to what another character does or says is also getting old. I think it happened at least 30 times in the episode I saw yesterday!
As compared to what? I don't watch the examples you gave. The camerawork is not intrusive as in some shows and it's a mockumentary so the style fits. Besides the show has a lot of attention to detail and genuine humor.
As compared to 99% of all other tv shows. I obviously disagree with the camerawork not being intrusive. The constant zooming and shaking was way too much.
I'm just giving you a hard time, obviously the camera is intrusive as it's used to imply a personality is behind it and remind the audience that it's supposed to be a documentary. Same reason the vampires talk to the "crew" and constantly look into the camera. It's okay not to like it but isn't awful, it's just part of the comedy.
Jeez, stop acting so sensitive because someone criticizes a show you like.
One Dutch tv show from the 90s I used to watch (30 minuten) does not have that style. I don't think This Is Spinal Tap has such an excessive use of zooming and shaking. Neither does all of Sacha Baron Cohen's stuff. Most mockumentaries from the 2000s do have the same camerawork and it's awful (yes, I said it again), especially since real documentaries do not.
You admit "giving me a hard time", tell me that I can't say it's awful (but give me permission not to like it!), dismiss my opinion as simply "hiding behind hyperboles", demand I give you examples of other shows (as if that says anything about the camerawork of this show) and state your our own opinion as fact like that's some kind of argument against my opinion ("it's not awful", "The show is legit quaility work"). And now you throw Trump into the mix because you're not willing to respond to the biggest part of my post. You're being sensitive and condescending as hell.
I do think the camerawork is awful and I explained why. Constant zooming and shaking is about the worst thing you can do as a camera person.
