Less John Wick, More Home Alone

It's not a great movie, but it's enjoyable. Bob Odenkirk has enough personality to carry it, and it never drags. The filmmakers wisely moved directly from the setup to the conclusion, and resisted the urge to include the seemingly obligatory extra 30 minutes of pointless action before the climax.

As for the "it's going to be John Wick with Saul," truth be told it was more of a deadly version of Home Alone, with grenades and bullets replacing hot doorknobs and bumps on the head.

Also in the film's favor, the protagonist isn't some untouchable master a la John Wick. He gets punched, stabbed, shot, thrown through windows, and knocked out throughout the film. That made it seem a little more grounded somehow, and less like a superhero film.

Also nice, the casual reveal that it was all for nothing made it feel even more like real life.
