Feels outdated in how hard it tries to gangster

I grew up on gangster movies and maybe 20 years ago this would have hit the spot, but now it feels like it is trying too hard to be like something like 80s films eg. the Pope of Greenwich, or 90s era exaggerated gangster films. A little toned down would have gone down smoother.
