Who does that?

Who leaves the headless body of a family member in a car for her mother to find?

reply

One who "snapped" psychologically as a result of the trauma of what just happened. I actually thought it was portrayed well, but yes, I concede that it was an unusual response.

reply

Shock, I guess.

reply

The mother said it herself during the dinner table confrontation scene: "No one ever takes responsibility for anything" - which ironically included herself as well.

reply

Well, to be fair, he was probably in serious shock. How exactly is someone supposed to respond to something like that? I mean, it's not like medical treatment can resolve a decapitation. Calling 911 would've been useless. Was he supposed to wake up his mom and be like, "hey mom, Charlie stuck her head out the window while I was driving, got decapitated by a telephone pole...her headless body is out in the car."

reply

The poor kid was in shock.

reply

What would a normal reaction be?

reply

Normal reaction would be either a very hysterical call to 911 or a very somber call to 911.

reply

So you know people who have decapitated their younger sister while driving? My whole point is that there is no normal reaction... How people react in such a situation is impossible to predict... Shock can lead to many different reactions...

This was perhaps one of the most disturbing parts of the movie for me was how they played that scene, it was super unique I thought bc you weren't expecting such a strange response. You had to suspend your disbelief around the odds of someone being so in shock that that happened that way, but the effect especially of the camera on his face lying in bed listening to his family in the morning going abt as usual until the mother got to the car, was SO disturbing to me!!!!
