Never watching this movie again

As a middle-aged man with a life-long love for horror movies, Jesus H Christ are you kidding me?

This was pure nightmare fuel...I don't scare easy but at one point found myself getting up to turn on more lights....shortly before deciding to whisk my cat from her perch. If there'd been a teddy bear nearby...who knows, but I haven't found myself this unsettled from watching a horror flick since I was a kid.
Really unsettling stuff, I couldn't imagine watching this film a second time unless you were really a glutton for punishment.

LMAO brilliant. I am glad it wasn't just me who was so affected by this film.
I've been a hardcore horror buff for most of my life and this was a freaking nightmare of a film.
Just like you, I hadn't felt fear like that from a film since I were a kid.

reply

so you liked it ??

reply

You didn't like it?? And yet you're hanging around the message boards for some reason? Who the hell does that??

reply

I liked it, it was unclear if you did.

reply

lol So I liked it a lot? This may surprise you but when I watch a film I loved, I like to talk about it.
Especially if it is a scary horror film as the vast majority of them tend to be shit.
So, quit busting my balls.

reply

It was just a simple question. I comment on films I like and don't like.

reply

Come on, man lol. It is pretty obvious I liked the film and also obvious that you are being sarcastic.

I just love that you're saying you won't watch it....again. 😂

reply

Hah yeah well you know how movies are the 'fun' kind of scary? This was that...somewhat...until it was just fucking 'terrifying' scary lol
I'd already passed "fun" when Mom started head-banging on the attic door...and then I'm not sure I've ever seen anything that disturbing ever lol
Of course, I don't have a TV, so don't see many previews, I'd no idea what to expect from this. Probably would have watched it during daylight hours otherwise.

reply

I'm kinda jealous of you. I'm still waiting for a movie that will scare me like they could when I was a kid. 😢

reply

Same here... Hoping for the best with this one

reply

I'd say it's actually very interesting movie if you know even a little bit about Paimon. But if you go in knowing nothing about that particular Luciferian agent it might give you a "wtf" feeling towards the end there. The signs are all there that explain what's going on, but it's too suble if you don't know any of the lore.

reply

Thanks, I'll read up on Paimon beforehand. Always love learning new lore.

I had a demonic presence in a script of mine that I decided to call Belial, it just came into my head one day like a light. Turns out it's a name for the Devil!

reply

That's...kind of terrifying too, really.
Wonder if that's one of those subconscious things where you've heard the name before but just didn't remember. I mean, its either that or you're possessed by an ancient evil entity. At least partially.

At least he doesn't have you sacrificing family members or anything, just a little help with writing lol

reply

Precisely why I love it. I'm in my thirties and have been a horror genre fan since middle school, so same boat. This one really gets under my skin. They know how to slowly ratchet up the tension. Now, I love my ones like Scream and Friday the 13th, but this one really does affect. I'll watch it again numerous times, it's brilliant, but I don't see the magic wearing off this one any time soon.

reply

I just saw it. Wasn't that scary.....

reply

Have you seen The Entity?,that movie is the scariest horror i ever seen and I've watched alot of horror movies.

reply

Shouldn't a powerful horror be exactly what you want to revisit later?

FACE YOUR FEARS!

reply

It definitely was creepy, but I could watch it again. I think knowing the actors so well plays into how scary a movie is, for me the familiarity takes the sting out. One recent horror film I can't see again is The Babadook. I loved it so much because I hadn't been scared like that in a long time. I had the chance to see it again online and just couldn't hit the play button lol. Then again, I like to remember it that way, a second viewing may not be as freaky.

SPOILERS

Did you like the ending? I didn't, and I know part of it is just because it was absolutely not what I expected. The ultimate plot line seemed to come out of nowhere. I do wonder if I watched again if I would notice some clues/indicators of what was actually happening, but it felt like the filmmaker wanted to pay tribute to Rosemary's Baby and forced this occult-themed twist on it at the end.

What I liked most was Toni Collette's performance. She had a couple of monologues that she delivered brilliantly. I think on the big screen, this might be a career best performance, and that's saying something given previous performances. I think hers is an Oscar-caliber performance and that it's too bad the film is in a genre AMPAS doesn't usually recognize for acting.

reply

Collette's performance was brilliant. Byrne was understated, as was the character, but excellent. This is a very disturbing, thought-provoking, and intelligent movie.
