Not for the fainthearted

This movie was seriously f**ked up.

I don't mean necessarily in a bad way.

I liked the plot twists but the end veers into the sort of territory that Eli Roth might have explored. If you were turned off by Hereditary, you might want to give this movie a pass.

The ending reminded me of
Tusk
.

reply

Me too... even though the ending in Tusk was way more freaky...

Agreed. I found this movie, which I think was very well scripted and produced, difficult to watch. Unlike most movies that would fall in the horror genre, this movie provides a storyline that could presumably occur in real life. And (spoilers), certain abuse that was discovered in the movie is prevalent within our society. The twists were a nice touch. I don't agree with what the Charlotte did, but I understand that she was mentally sick.

Good call with the Eli Roth comparisons. Haven't seen Hereditary yet but I want to check it out.

Except that this movie, as well as other good movies, is story-telling first, horror second. With Eli Roth, it is often horror first and story second (if there is any story to speak of). You can usually tell by the presence of well-known actors (or not), since good actors look for good scripts and stories, always.

Maybe I'm Desensitized from watching to much Horror but this movie is nothing compared to some other really extreme stuff.

reply

Yeah, it was really tame. I'm not sure what the OP means either (especially with the Eli Roth reference). The only uncomfortable parts are when you find out what he is really doing in that room, and that's spoken, not shown.

Maybe they compared it to Hereditary because it only has one messed up scene in an other wise dull movie (The Perfection was way more interesting).

This movie was so terrible.
