Would ending have been better if___SPOILERS

Would the ending have been better if they had left it ambiguous?? If they had cut it off as soon as he had the choice to either save his mother or destroy the plane filled with innocent people?? Thoughts??

The only human he appeared to not be hostile towards was his mom. After he caught her trying to kill him, there wasn't a chance he was going to let her live. Even if they cut away it wouldn't have been very ambiguous to me.

He was pretty hostile towards her before that. He was destroying the house while she was in it. I think he was messing with her at first since when he was blasting through the walls, he could've easily slammed into her and stuff. And him attacking his mom is why his mom called the police to begin with, which led to the police dying. No one was in that house either besides his mom when he was destroying it. I think he just wanted to mess with her at first before finally killing her. Then he really let her have it when he caught her trying to kill him. But when he showed up at the house and started destroying it, he was going to eventually kill her and that was his main goal. But then the police showed up and he got distracted. Then it went from there.

The only person I recalled him sparing and being the nicest too was the girl with the broken arm. Sure, he did break her arm himself, but he visited her later on and pretty much apologized, although he turned around and killed the girl's mom. But he mainly did that so the girl could talk to him and see him and not have to worry about the girl's mom getting in the way.

I honestly thought she was going to turn around and not kill him and tell her to take her with him. And then the film would have ended with her sort of turning evil. That would have been an interesting turn of events.

I like this idea... that a mother would go to the most extreme of events to defend and excuse her child's actions.

It would have required a re-working of the entire movie with more emphasis on the mother's motivations.

Another angle -- just hinted at in one scene -- is where the terrified parents are forced to smile and 'play nice' around their child while living in constant fear of being killed by him... take on that Twilight Zone ep 'It's a Good Life'.

No, that would have been horrible. Movies should never leave endings ambiguous, I didn't come to the movies to do the writer's/ director's job. Spoon-feed us and give a clear & proper ending. I'm glad they did just that!

I think it was better the way it was which clearly set up for a sequel (I heard the movie underperformed at the box office so we may not get it unfortunately, but still I liked it as is).

It didn't do great at the box office, but the budget was an extremely paltry $7 million, so it should still turn a profit.

If it finds its audience on home video then I could see it getting a sequel, even if only a low-budget one.

choice to save his mom? you make it sound like something different happened he took his mom up where she couldn't breath because the air was thin.
I thought he was going to take her Higher and let her freeze he saw the plane and forced it to crash into his house, to cover up his moms murder.
I hope he destroyed the spaceship his one known, only to him weakness.
