Isnt the wendigo part of east coast folklore?

There's a similar creature called the Wechuge that was a part of indigenous folklore on the Pacific Northwest coast.

Not solely Canadian as the folklore is in the US as well. East Coast of Canada including the Great Plains and Lakes. Oregon is close to Canada as well so maybe the Wendigo was around the Great Plains or Lakes then followed the Oregon Trail to Oregon? KEK!
