Failed right at the last minute

I really enjoyed this movie. But there is just one thing that didn't work for me -
The meteor that killed the dinosaurs created an ash cloud that lasted for years. It also created unbelievable seismic tension and pressure which created devastating earthquakes and set off every volcano on the planet.
This one was bigger, yet we see no earthquakes or erupting volcanos and the ash cloud only lasted 9 months? The dino's meteor took out only a part of Mexico; this one took out the whole of Europe!
Hell, if the volcano in Yellowstone Park erupted it would take out most of North America but still cause long-lasting affects around the world!
