Holy Bait and Switch Batman! This is NOT a disaster movie

Well, the movie is a disaster, but it is a RELATION(yawn)SHIP movie.
Hardly any special effects. Just bland, boring, dialogue and forced separation moments and lots of distressed looks. (your acting coaches would have been proud)
I don't NOT want to hear about the first time you met your wife's mother story!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bring on the damn asteroid already

All disaster movies have relationship conflict story lines. I'm having a really hard time thinking about one which doesn't.

It reminded me a lot of Deep Impact in that there are actually very few disaster scenes and most of the film is really interpersonal shit set against a disaster backdrop. Deep Impact was more fun, though.

Earthquake was another one that had a lot of personal drama.

No, it's definitely a disaster movie.

Already? There's parts of the comet hitting the planet the entire movie.

If the world is ending, there's gonna be some relationship stuff. It's common sense. Christ, Armageddon is a very hokey, effects-driven, clear cut shallow action disaster movie, still has some sappy shit in it. If humans are facing extinction, you bet your ass people are going to be emotional.

reply

So no relations for you. Why does that not surprise?

I was so glad they a movie wasn't filled with a bunch of shitty CGI city destruction.

If you like to feel anxiety and dread, this makes you FEEL the end of the world. That pit of your stomach feeling that you can't shake... Lots of movies if you want to see buildings get leveled.

^ Agree. I like the ground level, human panic angle this film took. It really created a growing sense of panic, dread, fear... That is the most interesting thing in most of these films. The “what would I do and feel in this situation?” I am so tired of seeing the Eiffel Tower explode and the Statue of Liberty sink.
