The twist was not believable at all.
If she wanted to cover up what her son did, they could have just said she jumped or slipped off the cliff.....

Yep - her actions would have made more sense if her son actually killed/raped the girl.
shareWell, they both thought he killed her. Raped her? Yeah, they could've gone for a more dark and unhappy ending, but I don't see why is going for a happy ending bad. I thought it was a good way to finish the movie and leaving you with a good feeling. Happy family, and helping them get over or accepting, the death of her mother and wife.
The quality of the movie would not have changed if the movie ended with the son killing and raping the girl, and then both ending up in prison. And why not, finish it with then cutting to breaking news 2020 about the father killing himself. Apart from letting you depressed, which is not what the movie was about.
I don't see why, clearly she could not have jumped or slipped off the cliff, as she was full of bruises and his son's blood. Remember they had a fight on the car before the cliff "accident". So no, that would not have worked. His son would present some kind of bruises so not credible that she just jumped off.

What? you did not like the fact that she was covering it instead of killing her? why would a cop kill a teenager without any reason at all? Would've worked for you better if the detective was fish_n_chips?
I don't see why it was disappointing.
