Prediction: This show will actually end up being better than House of the Dragon

Sure, House of the Dragon got off to a better start with it's first five episodes while this show dragged and went nowhere. But with the latest episode both shows have set the tone for things to come and Rings of Power actually looks more promising.

In episode 6 House of the Dragon stumbled with all the time skip, swapped actors, aged characters and new characters as well as a rushed story. While Rings of Power has now all the pieces in place for a big clash towards the season finale. In the mean time, what is there to look forward to in House of the Dragon? Another scene showing us the "horrors" of pregnancy and childbirth? Yawn.

I agree. I excitedly started LOTR, and simultaneously took on House of Dragon as a side piece without thinking too much about it. And I was shocked at how engaged I was in House of Dragon. But with the time change, actor changes, and complete change in character development, I am just suddenly turned off by it and the slow, but consistent build up of Rings of Power may end up being the better show after the slow start.

reply

No.
For one simple reason. There are no talented people on the RoP team.

reply

The actors are better on RoP.

I think there are some fine actors on HotD but they have some rather sketchy material to work with. Whereas RoP has "stars" of the show.

No one on HotD has stepped up yet and become the standout "character" so far, other than Milly Alcock but she's gone. Now, let's compare this to Game of Thrones, we had something like 6 or 7 characters that were standouts in the first 5 or 6 episodes. By the end of season one, we had maybe 8 characters that were very intriguing and very likable even if they were bad guys.

But yeah, we've seen pretty good acting on HotD but sometimes good acting can't save a show. I mean seriously, ***spoilers for HotD***

did anyone care that Leana died in ep6? I felt absolutely nothing when she passed away***

But I would be a little sad if Durin, Elrond or even the giant and his friend Nori got killed.

***END SPOILER***

The characters on HotD are kind of blah so far. Someone needs to step up.... the show needs a new star.

reply

Exactly. Strong could have been that character for HotD but you see what they did to him in the latest episode.

reply

"did anyone care that Leana died in ep6?"

who?

reply

House of the Dragon is boring as fuck. RoP has it's issues, but it is FUN and I want to know what will happen in the next episode. In House of the Dragon I am just expecting the characters to get killed off at some point. Put them out of their misery.

reply

I didn’t realize so many guys here think they have crystal balls.

reply

Called it, episode 6 of this show blows anything they have done in House of the Dragon out of the water and really sets things up in a big way.

Really? That's all you need? Buncha people in plastic armor aimlessly prancing around and a big explosion?
I bet, you are a Michael Bay fan.

reply

Galadriel's talk with Adar was far better than any character dialogue in House of the Dragon.

reply

Like everything else in the show it feels like it's been made by a random cliche generator

Pay close attention to that scene, particularly to the threats she exclaims. And also for hints sprinkled throughout the episodes that serve as further evidence.

For someone who, on paper, is supposed to be the hero the audience should root for, she is especially genocidal, evil and narcissistic. An ocean apart from Tolkien's characterization.

reply

Sure she is different from what Tolkien wrote but at this point who cares? The show is it's own thing.

reply

If that thing is dogshit, then yes.

reply

House of the Dragon fumbles again, episode 6 of this show is much better.

Just think, we're never going to see Orodruin (Mount Doom) go from dormant to eruption ever again. This was their load they fired off. The next time Orodruin goes dormant will be at the end of Return of the King, after the Ring of Power is destroyed and it never erupts again.

House of the Dragon is beautiful slow burn buildup to the Dance of the Dragons, the Targaryen Civil War, which will set Westeros ablaze. Get ready for a wild ride. Oh, and they chose the adult actors first. Young Alicent and young Rhaenyra were based off of their adult actors.
