The fact that Amazon could not attain the rights to the Silmarillion, Tolkiens Letters, Lost Tales, and Unfinished Tales the story from the series will feel like a deluded narrative with too many non-Tolkien characters to those, including myself, who have read all of his works, not just the Hobbit and LotR. Nonetheless, I think this serires is better crafted than The Wheel of Time so I'm gonna keep watching it.

shareReally ? I thought it was awful. Poorly written and it's hard to have good pacing when there's bugger all to pace. But it did have pretty pictures.
I also found the first episode (the released two so far, right?) boring.
But will rewatch it to see if it 'clicks' with me on a second viewing.
Production values are top notch though, quite impressive in that regard.

shareI'm starving for high fantasy so I actually enjoy the show. It's an expensive knockoff of Tolkien BUT it's enjoyable if one can look past the deviations from canon.
The WOT feminism/intersectionality was blatant from the start. The feminism/intersectionality is present in ROP but it's more subtle. I'll just be mad if the women are the only ones beheading trolls and goblins. Your bar is pretty low if WOT is the standard. I enjoyed the low-budget WOT BUT I'm starving for high fantasy.
I'm disappointed that the main human characters were not featured in the first couple of episodes. I'd like to see the black dwarf female get eaten by a troll since she overacts and is quite annoying. I thought it was lame that the dwarf prince had a hissy fit over Elrond missing his wedding.
It would be cool if the mediocre ROP is successful and studios started producing high fantasy shows.
