Pretty good film, not a horror at all though.

Spoilers.

More like a study into a troubled girl’s mind.

Nothing was scary or even seemed intended to be.

reply

I wouldn't say scary, but it did have an unsettling tone throughout. There was one moment towards the end that made me jump and the ending shot got me as well.

reply

Yeah there was a cheap jump scare near the end i know the one you mean.

She was definitely unsettled good filmmaking to show us how she got the signs wrong and the end i agree. Burning or in heaven.

reply

I didn't think either of the jump scares were cheap. Both were unexpected and well executed and I normally hate jump scares. It helped too that the film doesn't have any until the last 10 minutes.

reply

that doesn't want to make me watch it.

reply

I wouldn’t recommend it.

What is the criteria for horror in your opinion? I've been a horror fan since the 70's and back then had to watch the early black and white horror films of the 40's and 50's for the most part. Still checking out horror today, but I'm fascinated by when people draw a line as to what kind of film is horror or not.

reply

When something is scary, or trying to be. This was neither.

reply

Yes, I guarantee there are people who would watch this film and be scared and horrified and held in a mood of dread. Maybe not you in particular, but many others.

reply

Horror films have to be horrifying and I think Saint Maud fits the bill there
