I’m usually annoyed by people saying “looks like it was written by an 8yr old” but…

I could easily say that for this film.

Not that I’m a big fan of this franchise (the first one was good, the second one was ok, haven’t seen the third and the Minion movies were fun, especially the 2022 sequel) but this was a terrible and massive disappointment. Should have been called The fall of Gru because he is now the biggest wimp ever, literally scared of a 10 year old girl and he lost all the flair that made him interesting in the past. Don’t get me wrong, it still has a beautiful and amazing animation and my three kids enjoyed it but they totally forgot about the parents watching. I didn’t laugh once, there’s too much immature and slapstick humour and the story was bad and basic. The bad guy was one of the worst in history and his story arc and demise were instantly forgettable. Like, I wanted to forget about this whole ordeal the second I stepped out the door. Popcorn was good though. My rating: 4/10

I enjoyed it and I thought the jokes really worked. My only real complaint is the one that everyone is making and it's that there were so many subplots and many of them didn't go anywhere, but the subplots themselves were good. Just Edith and Agnes at Karate while it had a good setup didn't have any payoff.

I rewatched the third one this week and man, they should’ve followed the twin story. That was a good one.
