Enough of the fucking Minions
This isn't even Despicable Me anymore, it's Minions 3. Just stop it with these movies already!

shareAgreed. I've hated those little yellow bastards since the first time I saw them in a fucking iHop commercial in 2009. Never understood why or how anyone ever found them even slightly funny. Illumination as a whole is lazy as fuck. The only movie they've made that I kinda liked was the first Despicable Me, but even that one is just entertaining more than it is well written. It hasn't aged as well as some other films but I'll admit that one was fun back in 2010, before we knew what Illumination would spend their entire career doing.
shareIllumination does some really creative work, the minions are simple and they are funny to simple minds, you know, like the mind of a child? I'm glad that there is more out there than Pixar for kids to enjoy.
I don't understand adults complaining about a kids movie, adults aren't the target audience and that is who the studio is targeting. There are things for adults in there but how adult appealing can you MAKE a children's movie before it's not for kids anymore?
The whole "hey, 5-year-olds think it's funny, so lay off!" argument is stupid. 5-year-olds think just about anything bright and colorful is funny. I was a kid when the minions came out and I hated them then. We have every right to complain if the movies are BAD. Because these films are BAD and they talk down to children and treat them as if they're idiots. Pixar movies are great because they talk to children and tell great stories in ways that can be appreciated by all ages.
There's plenty of other stuff aimed at kids outside of Pixar that's also well-written, smart, and dignified, like Arthur, Bluey, The Magic School Bus, Over The Garden Wall, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Regular Show, many of the films made by Disney, the occasional Dreamworks film, etc. So no, these movies should not be let off the hook because they're "funny to simple minds". That phrase is actually quite insulting, yes?
My niece and nephew love the minions. I'm not telling you you have a simple mind so I don't know how it would be insulting. Children need someone to speak to them on their level and the story telling isn't bad just because it's simple.
Pixar and Dreamworks are wonderful too. It's easy to bash creative works, it's hard to create.
I didn't say it was insulting to me, but it's insulting to kids. We all just assume kids are stupid and can't enjoy anything complex or interesting. Kids are smart and very astute. Their brains are to programmed to be constantly learning and absorbing new information, far moreso than adults are. That's why I have a problem with Illumination films. They're essentially the candy and junk food for a growing mind. Entertaining? Sure, I suppose. But deep or nutritional? Absolutely not. Would you feed your growing child a bag of chips or something healthy? What's annoying is that I fully suspect Illumination of having the capability and facilities to make something genuinely excellent, but they're too concerned about selling toys and making cute commercials to get butts in seats than telling a good story.
shareThese movies aren't FOR you, they are for kids and kids love them. At least its not a musical.
shareI will never have enough of the minions and I am really excited that Minions 3 is now happening.
shareI want to stomp on them, spray them with Raid, or shoot them with my air rifle.
