It's so blatant that it's even funny... The wireless copy from the briefcase's HDD, in the hotel room!
Buses with led panels, flat widescreens in the french party or in '87 Moscow streets... the modern design and lighting of multiple locations, the clothes too all modern... and the 'CIA Special Ops' patches in the operatives' arms, in a park in Paris in broad light.
Don't forget the last scene when Anna is talking with Olga through web cam with HD quality.
I was like: Why they didn't make this movie set in actual days??? It does not add nothing to the story the fact that the story is set in the 90's, but whatever...
Actually, they could have set it now, under Putin, call KGB GRU, and everything would have been fine... The KGB times are pretty much back...

I actually quite liked this film. The action was well choreographed and she made it very believable for being such a waif. It was like "La Femme Nikta" mixed with "Fresh" or "Miller's Crossing".
But yes the tech presented is a MASSIVE fail. What the hell was Besson thinking? It's hard to see that it was an oversight, because who in god's name could miss this throughout the entire production process? It's almost like it was some willful, intentional attempt at something. An alternate universe? It's just weird. I just pretended it was taking place in modern times. Maybe putting in 1990 happened at the end of production? it really does boggle the mind.
Remove that oddity and I actually liked this much better than I expected.
But.... the TECH! WHYYYYY!?

Agreed. That's most likely what happened. I think I would have preferred a slightly altered world where the KGB still existed secretly rather than tech from 2019 showing up in the early 90's. But oh well. But yeah I bet you're right.

I like your idea. KGB that still operates secretly today would be more interesting indeed.
Because Besson knows that (1) people are stupid, and (2) if you give them entertainment, they will not care about the particulars.
