Terrible.

Who do we root for on this show? Everybody is either dumb or a psychopath.

2 hours in and I have no idea who or what I am supposed to care about.

reply

Don't forget BORING.
I'm bailing after Episode 1

reply

Dunno I never got this thing about needing someone to root for. A show can be entertaining without that.

reply

If not rooting, call it caring. I don't care about Ratchet, the doctor, the other nurses, the patient or the killer.

reply

I don't need to care for someone either.

reply

It's just so Boring!

reply

I don't necessarily need to root for a character to enjoy a show. But I'm on episode 3 and I'm yet to encounter a character that's interesting or compelling, which I do need in a show. Too bad because this could've been interesting.

reply

The scarred, military veteran, orderly seems okay, although I haven't watched all of the episodes yet.

reply

Do you know what rooting means in Australia?

reply

Yes, it means raping a Koala while wrestling a crocodile.

reply

Did you sit up all night thinking of that reply?
Looks like you're on a holiday anyway.

reply

No vacation. I post from hell.

I agree. It appears they were trying to use the technique of painting characters in shades of grey rather than black and white, something recent series have used successfully (e.g. Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, etc). In well written shows, characters did seemingly horrible things and we *still* pulled for them. The writers of Ratched ailed in that most of the character arcs are chaotic and it seems each and every character does something inexplicably horrid that makes it hard to root for them. As just one example, Charlotte Wells first appears as a character we could maybe pull for - she has suffered terrible abuse and developed multiple personality disorder to deal with it and it appears she may have a chance at a future as she runs off with the one person she feels can help her - Dr Haonover - but then out of the clear blue, she brutally murders him.

This show was panned by critics but people, young girls to be specific, seem to love it on social media.
