What made the Swedish original better (some spoilers)

I saw the Swedish original of this about a month ago, and this one yesterday. I think the original was better for two reasons that occurred to me.

In the original, the young Ove (Otto) is not a likable person. He is a bit abrasive, and we are shown how the Sonja character lightens him up over time.

Also we see a traumatic event which shapes his life and explains his character a bit more by building the viewers' empathy for a character who is not very pleasant.

Some details are adapted for an American setting, with no loss in the story, these made it more practical in this setting (Iranian to Mexican immigrant neighbor, gay to transgender student, Volvo/Saab to Ford/Chevy bickering between friends).

Unfortunately American remakes of Scandinavian movies usually wash away some of the more interesting parts (see The Guilty, Danish original vs Jake G. remake)

He's just not an extrovert.

That's true.
