Woke life. Get bent.

Long time reader (IMDb comments), first time commenter. Hopefully, not my last comment on MC since I really, honestly, value your opinions. Take this film, "A Man Called Otto" for example. Was the original movie similar? If it was a book, was it on par with storyline? Of course, I can research the film ad nauseum, but let's say the film is just garbage and I'd rather ask about it here.

What's up with the emasculated husband and injection of the trans kid about half way through the film? I'm tired... so tired of trannies in these movies. Is anyone able to tell me why, for example, the kid couldn't have a physical disability or perhaps a small drug problem? All I wished for was a feel-good movie and I get woke nonsense, trans-genders and men who don't, and never have, represented the guys I've hung around with in my life.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

reply

Idiot.

Actually, I am a new commenter with just one account.

My question stands. Why did I sit down to watch a feel-good movie only to be hit over the head with a trans-gender half way through the film? Woo Hoo! Sock puppet wants to know why. Let's throw memes at him. I will then laugh at myself for my meme. I am so smart!

The movie looked good and I wished to see a make-me-smile kind of film. Turned out to be ultra-woke. So much woke, I finally posted on this board. Can anyone argue the fact that her husband ("Alvin Wrench") was not a liberal dream of, again, emasculated men? I'm not a construction worker, but as a man, I'll get work done around the house and... I'm not a sock puppet. Repeat. I'm not a sock puppet. But the meme says so. And they're always right. Memes are right.

Ugh.

Your question is couched in intelligent language, the sure sign of a real person asking a real question. Some folks here just go for the cheap and easy shots. 🤷🏼‍♀️

But as for why everything is woke in Hollywood, it's a group of people who've been around hyper-liberal, artsy-fartsy types their whole lives. They live in a terrarium, so to speak. Drop them in the middle of "fly-over" country and they will either have forgotten or have never known how the real people live.

Read Andrew Breitbart's "Hollywood Interrupted." He takes a number of celebs and what kind of upbringings they had. Actually, it's hard not to feel sorry for a lot of them. They couldn't help but become hyper-liberals who turned to make believe.

reply

Breitbart ... what a model life ... dead at 43. So full of hate and toxicity he went for a simple walk and dropped dead.

reply

Breitbart was known to his friends as being a very positive person. He worked too hard, a trait that's increasingly rare.

You, on the other hand, are not a serious person, so I'll be giving your posts all the consideration they're worth, which is none.

reply

sniff, sniff

reply

You're seriously saying that he didn't have a model life because he died at 43?

reply

Didn’t care for that either.

I don’t like being lectured. And if I did, it wouldn’t be by 28-year-old L.A. hipster screenwriters trying to outwoke each other.

Cancelled Netflix for the same reason.

reply

News flash, Adolph. Trans people exist.

reply

Not a one of us needed YOU — or this movie — to point that out.

reply

Oh no, how dare they put people different from you and the guys you know into a movie. Are the guys you hang around as fragile as you?

reply

I think his point is why does it have to have an almost mindless liberal trope crammed into it?

It's like the Biden Administration caring more about "diversity" than competence. Who cares what color someone is or who they sleep with? It'd be nice to have a Secretary of Transportation, for instance, that didn't take weeks to get to the worst train derailment/toxic waste accident that I can remember. I don't care if the dude's into polycules. Just. Be. Competent. Which means get there the day after it happens with a PLAN. Instead he's there because he checked the woke boxes.

We don't need to have every box checked, every time. It's no longer edgy. It calls attention to itself and looks contrived.

reply

All movies these days look contrived.
You know what's contrived, is the constant whining about woke.
Follow your own advice, if you don't like, don't watch it.
If all Hollywood is so woke, what are you doing on MovieChat anyway?

reply

I was watching a British show that was so woke it even had a little person! She only lasted one season. I can't remember who they replaced her with -- of course, I'm assuming she was a she. I shouldn't, of course, since we're now so "woke" we can't even describe what a woman is. But when a show has every single box ticked, any halfway observant person starts noticing that.

Wait. What are the various Academies going to do when it comes to Best Actor/Actress awards? How dare they assume someone's gender? And besides, since no liberal can define what a woman is, they couldn't define what an "actress" is, either. They can't even say "best actor in a female role," because THAT presumes too much. How do we know that character identifies as a "cis" female? Perhaps they've already crossed that bridge. Like most people, I don't watch the awards shows.

Eventually, liberals always go so far that even they can't stand it. Producers and directors are just saying, "To heck with it!" and saying they may not have the number of boxes checked to be considered for an Oscar, but they'll just make the movies they want the way they want to, anyhow. Privately, a lot of actors/actresses are getting worried. The women especially, because they're not only up against younger, more popular actresses, they're up against transgenders.

Soon, all this will be academic, because if they want to do a Western, the male actors will have to be up against an AI version of John Wayne. Romantic comedies can star an AI version of Marilyn Monroe. Imagine an updated version of one of the funniest movies of all time, His Girl Friday, set today, but with the original cast? AI could do it, eventually.

reply

> we're now so "woke" we can't even describe what a woman is

Sorry you are having a problem with that. It's not an issue for me.

reply

Explain it to the liberals on the Supreme Court and in the Biden Administration. They seem to be confused.

reply

Your brainwashers are merely telling you that ... here in the real world people know men from women, but they also don't freak out when they see something unexpected.

reply

[Judge Ketanji Brown] Jackson, the first black woman to be nominated to the Supreme Court, made her eyebrow-raising comment Tuesday when asked simply if she “could provide a definition for the word ’woman.'”

“No, I can’t,” she eventually said. “Not in this context. I’m not a biologist.” https://nypost.com/2022/03/24/supreme-court-nominee-judge-ketanji-brown-wont-define-woman/
~~~~
Which spawned the repeated asking of the question "What is a woman?" by your average Joe, who laughed hysterically at folks who couldn't provide the answer in ANY context. It also spawned jokes where people were asked, say, "Is that a plane I hear?" "I don't know," the wag responds. "I'm not an aviation engineer." And so forth.
Then there was the movie, "What Is A Woman?" in which the question was asked by Matt Walsh of lots of so-called experts who ALSO couldn't give an answer. They all claimed it wasn't simple. It sounds absurd because it IS absurd, but that's libs for you.
Is this just an American thing and you're English? If you're American, I don't see how you could have missed it.
reply
Do you know who asked KBJ that question?
The question and the movie was out before KBJ.
Did you actually listen to the exchange?
It was a BS gotcha question not meant to be answered.
Good for her.
Matt Walsh is another idiot who can make money off you ignorant Conservatives.
reply
Dang. You never disappoint, do you?
Her hearings were in March '22. The trailer was out in May '22. No, the movie wasn't out before that question was asked. The movie came about BECAUSE of that question.
You say you can answer the question and that "in the real world people know men from women." Yes. In the real world, they do. They also can acknowledge that a lifetime of testosterone coursing through a person gives them a physical advantage. That's why you never see woman to man transgenders seeking to go into men's sports. There's no point to it.
reply
> That's why you never see woman to man transgenders seeking to go into men's sports.
Gee, you're a real brain.
reply
And you lied about when "What Is a Woman?" came out. You also lied about conservatives "brainwashing" people when it came to that question. You were telling the truth that folks in the real world are NOT confused about what a woman is, but that actually makes the conservative point.
But other than that, this has, as always, been a fascinating discussion. I'll give you the last word since it seems to mean so much to you.
reply
No, I'll give you the last word since you're so determined to get it that you make up clever stuff like this.
reply
^ That.
reply
You right wing morons would call the original Swedish film woke because there's an interracial marriage and a gay character.
reply
Stop moaning and just enjoy the movie
reply
In the original Swedish movie, the character (former student of the wife) is gay with a disapproving father (I think they were from a conservative middle eastern culture, Lebanese maybe - can't remember exactly). So this was an adaptation of that for an American setting. Similarly, the immigrant neighbor was Iranian, her character was changed to Mexican.
The purpose of these characters was to show you that a typical "grumpy old man" could find empathy for people who you would expect he would not care for.
reply
Well said, very reasonable. The original movie was no bad. Don't expect your sensible comment to get a very warm reply from OP. They just drop in to bitch and moan that the world is passing them by.
reply
yeah our immigration polices are disheartning our border patrol should stop drugs not immigrants , America was founded by immigrants
reply
Now it’s founded by empty clichés.
Like yours.
But that’s the way the cookie crumbles.
P.S. Discover punctuation.
reply
Otto is a conservative grumpy old man, what things would he dislike? I don't know man, immigrants? trannies? non-American cars? vegans? #vanlife?
reply
"All I wished for was a feel-good movie"
That's the problem, they don't want to make movies anymore that make anyone feel good. They want to make make movies that divide, annoy and make you feel bad and guilty. The original movie was just as bad, it tries to ram its message down our throats.
reply
It's a business, of course they make movies that make people feel good. You guys don't feel good unless you are watching KKK or Nazi movies. Too bad no one makes movies for you these days. You could move to Ukraine and pick up a gun to defend your Nazi ideaology though.
reply
And as always you're completely failing as a troll, D-feet.🍆
reply
D-feet
