I loved the film but can see why some don't think much of it (Spoilers)

A bit like Director's Antonio Campos other works (Afterschool, Simon Killer, Christine) it's very slow moving and just bleak with not much hope thrown in there for the audience to grasp onto.

But I really enjoyed it, nowhere near the worst film of the year some threads have it as on here but certainly not the best film of the year. It's probably a little too all over the place for it's own good and could have done with some editing in places to tighten it up a little. And the likes of Mia Wasikowska and Haley Bennett were wasted in their roles. The third act when Arvin goes on his revenge did drag out way too long.

But it's got a lot to recommend it, the performances are uniformly excellent. Tom Holland has never been better and shows he's got a career beyond Spiderman if he goes down the same route as Robert Pattinson has. Robert Pattinson again shows why he's one of the best around right now, as scumbag preacher. Riley Keough, Jason Clarke, Eliza Scanlen, Harry Melling, Sebastian Stan and especially Bill Skarsgard do well in smaller roles.

No problems with narration. It's not a film you go out of the way to watch a dozen times as it is pretty bleak even though everyone who deserves their comeuppance get's it at the end. I think releasing it on Netflix is a smart move. I'd give a 7.5/10, not a best film of the year contender but well worth going out of the way to see. I think some have been way too harsh on it.

Yeah, I would give it a 6.5 or 7.0...so I guess 6.75? To call something this well made the worst of the year is brainless hyperbole.
