the best child-adult casting I've ever seen

The whole time I was watching Eddie I couldn't help but be blown away by the looks and mannerisms between James Ransone and Jack Dylan Grazer. Out of all of them, that one knocked it out of the park.

I still think they pictured Amy Adams for Bev, as she would have been the exactly like her young counterpart.

reply

James McAvoy was the most distracting for me, as he has been in many popular movies and so I'm reminded of those. But the others are relative unknowns to me, so they worked out better.

reply

I thought that young Bill was gonna grow up to be Tobey Maguire, based on facial similarities, but maybe the role wouldn’t have suited Tobey.

reply

I kinda think Tobey is persona non grata in Hollywood right now. I think he was married to a bigtime Hollywood exec's daughter and they split up. He also had some bad rumors going on around his gambling. He was sued and was not portrayed well in the Molly's Game movie.

reply

Yeah, actually the actress who played Beverly in the first movie played the child version of Amy Adams in that Sharp Objects HBO miniseries and they just look exactly like each other. I think everyone just thought Amy was a shoo-in but in truth, every actor here I thought shined very well in their roles. Really terrific casting.

Have a short review of this movie if anyone is interested. Enjoy! Review here - https://youtu.be/xdbGDBG2JDw

I thought the kid actors were way better at acting than their adult counterparts.

reply

And they acted like true friends, because they actually were in real-life. That's what a two-month bonding session will do.

reply

I usually hate child actors, but I think that the first half of both versions of It are better. Maybe that added chemistry is part of it. As a counterpoint, it would make sense that the adults wouldn't seem as close since they were apart for 27 years.

Ransone as Eddie was perfect. Looked the part and absolutely nailed the rest.

Yep, prefect casting.

reply

Really? I had no idea who the adults were relative to the kids... except one was black, ok. One was a female. Got it. Ooh, one has glasses. Check. I spent the rest of the time trying to figure out and/or recall (after I had figured out) who was who.

I don't blame that on casting though. I blame that one part on the bad choice to keep referring back and one part on my lack of caring.

reply

Yeah that's definitely a you problem, not the movie's.

Referring back was what made it 100% clear who was who. Absolutely stumped on how that made it worse for you. Unless you meant something else by that in which I'm misunderstanding.

reply

The remaining three white dudes just blended together. 3 x2 =6. It was distracting trying to keep 6 dudes straight whose names it didn't care about. Plus, I kept thinking I was watching Stranger Things.

reply

I gotta agree with jake. It definitely looks like a you problem.

reply

Amy would've been a better choice, but she's kind of a hot commodity right now and probably isn't as easy to get for the small role that Beverly got in this movie.

reply

The fat kid was the best. Great casting.

reply

Except for the inhaler guy, I agree. They looked a lot alike, those two actors...especially in the eyes.
