why is there so much sex in the book

i thought it is supposed to be a horror novel

reply

Supposedly, because Stephen King was doing a lot of drugs during this period of writing. And it kinda shows because there is a lot of weird shit in this book, especially the second half.

reply

i think the book sucks, was he on lsd

reply

Not LSD. Mainly coke and various sleeping pills and a bunch of alcohol.

reply

mainly lsd and weed...

reply

What makes you say that? As the man himself said it was coke and alcohol when he did an AMA on Reddit a while back...

reply

I'm not aware of any sex in the book, aside from Beverly fucking with each of the boys, one by one.

reply

Bev and Bill bang near the end, before they go down to the sewers, as adults.

reply

Oh, OK.

reply

Also, Patrick Hockstetter starts to jack off Henry Bowers, if we're counting weird sexual scenes...

reply

Oh, right, I forgot about that. And even the psychotic Bowers thinks he's weird for doing that...

reply

Are you still daddies little girl? Lol

reply

King probably would have wrote books differently if he knew he would become such a celebrated author. He was coked up and pounding booze and just trying to cash checks to keep the lights on. Also, it was a very different time back then.

reply

king was already a rich celebrated author then he wrote IT, his lights were on lol, all his books have sex in them.
he supposedly was so coked up that he didn't remember writing cujo (or so he claims) and that was in 1981, 5 years before IT

reply

Ha ha

reply

I'm interested that you seem to think that horror novels don't have sex in them. In my experience, and I've read a lot of them, they often do. Many surrender to the sex leads to death trope common in slasher flicks. In others its just that teen and adult characters often engage in sexual conduct.

reply

it's a book meant to be read by adults.. and also one of the themes is 'coming of age' so sex has to come into play

reply

Because they knew that in any horror story that the virgins are killed first.
