....part one was ok....but after reading the book 25 years ago and than the tv mini series, there's really not much to make me want to see this. I only saw the first one because my girlfriend wanted to see it. She never saw the mini series or read the book and part one didn't scare her at all. Kinda boring...maybe a rental later or see it for free on tv one day.

I know what you mean, though, by overkill if you've read the book and seen the previous mini-series (I have, too); from seeing chapter 1 of the new version, I'm still of the opinion that neither it (haha!) nor the '90 version are better than the book itself (which I consider one of King's bests). Ideally, if they wanted to do this story justice, they should have made it as a 10 or 12 hour mini-series for cable. There's just something wrong that a 10 episode series can be made of something like Mr. Mercedes, yet we only get about 5 hours of IT in two films.
But you have to admit that the miniseries (warts and all) was an ADMIRABLE translation given the times and the platform.
shareOh yeah, definitely. I think IT and the THE STAND (both made for ABC incidentally) were worthy adaptations of King's novels. Neither is perfect, but considering the limitations of that time (the effects, the network restrictions on "adult" subject matter, etc) both productions at least didn't disappoint. They were both certainly far better than the King mini-series that came a decade later, such as ROSE RED and STORM OF THE CENTURY and DESPERATION, although I think part of the blame for those rests a great deal with the source material, too.

I think the problem with LANGOLIERS was that they adapted a novella...and thought they could make a three hour telefilm out of it.

But I do stand by my opinion this is still a padded story that never should have been intended as a three hour tale. Ideally, a two hour movie with GOOD effects for the climax, and this could have been great Horror B-movie.
Ugh. The Stand was atrocious! I've done my best to forget it & now you went & brought it up. The thing I'm excited for is from what I know they're making a theatrical version of it. Let's see how that goes. Hopefully it turns out well.
shareThe thing that makes me want to see "IT part 2" is I hear tell that they're going to include the character of Maturin (The giant space turtle) in it. That's going to be wild! I'd definitely would check that out.
shareYeah they skipped the old turtle in the 90s adaptation (probably for the best--the sfx for the spider weren't that good, and dropping the ball animating a turtle would have just got them laughed at).
shareIn both the miniseries and the book, the adult sections were pretty much leaning on the kid sections. But as this is a full length movie devoted to the adults, I would imagine it will be written and dramatised in a way which makes it stand on its own, it will be given its own stakes and storyline.
