This was not a good movie...

I'm sympathetic to the themes involved, but it has HEAVYHANDED. DRAMATIC IRONY!!!!!!!!!!! METAPHOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RELEVANCE TO CURRENT EVENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY 101!!!!!!!!!!!! Spike Lee has never been the subtlest of filmmakers but this was just too much.

It was a great film. The screenplay was excellent and the performances were fantastic. One of the best films of 2018.

reply

How dare you criticize a movie directed and written by a black man. RACIST!

This was not a good movie. Yes it was way heavy handed and clumsy. Now, I enjoy most of the films made by Mr. S. Lee. But, this was rubbish. The story was incredible based on some true events. But the film itself was amateurish and odd. Especially coming from a filmmaker who has made, "Mo Better Blues," "Clockers," "25th Hour" and others. For a while I thought he was doing some kind of homage to the Blaxploitation of the early 70's. But those films were more of a higher quality than "BlacKkKlansman." And, they were fun. This is a bad film with assimilates stretched to make some points about today's situations. A great film maker way off course.

The film entertained me, with some good performances and a compelling story, but, on an objective plan, I basically agree with the OP. The dialogue was really too on-the-nose, most of the time.

reply

I'll hold off on judging it as good or bad but it is NOT accurate. What doc is?

reply

Who cares what you think?

reply

It's okay, everyone is entitled to an opinion. I for one liked the movie.

reply

Sure, but sometimes people just post to antagonize others who liked the movie. The OP thinks that Spike is heavy handed, but you can say the same thing about the OP.

reply

It was a great movie. There were only a couple of moments that felt a little too "on the nose" to me, but you know what? It was 100x more subtle than an Oliver Stone picture.

reply

Oliver stone is not subtle at all, but Spike Lee is obnoxious is how over the top and obvious he is. If you want prove watch or better yet do not watch Bamboozled. That is the most ridiculous on the nose ridiculous satire on racism I have ever seen.

reply

I dunno. I loved Do The Right Thing. She's Gotta Have It was a really entertaining and well-shot movie. I also really liked BlackKklansman and Inside Man. Spike Lee knows what he's doing as far as I'm concerned. Haven't seen Bamboozled, but most directors have a few misses in their quivers, anyway.

reply

Bamboozled definitely is one of his misses. He Got Game and Inside Man are good movies that are well made and entertaining.
