Take everything in the cabin and hide it? Why did they think it was a good idea to take a mentally unstable womans pills and hide them? Why did they think it was a good idea to fuck with this unstable woman in any way?

Thats what i didn't understand, so as a joke they hid everything, so they sat there for days eating nothing but beans and freezing all just to fuck with this woman? Not to mention Aiden pretended to hang himself spouting words from her dead former cult leader.

I mean was theses kids aware they was gonna eventually break this woman mentally and she was gonna kill them? They seemed scared shitless of her at the beginning, and then when they was left alone with her they felt it was a smart idea to start fucking with her head? for what fucking purpose?

Thats the one thing i didn't get in this movie, there was no explanation for why the kids hid everything and was fucking with her, they hid all their jackets, food and everything just to screw with her? what was they hoping to accomplish? to freeze and half starve themselves all the while driving an already unstable woman mad so she kills them?

They weren't doing it thinking about her killing them, they did it to spite her for being the "replacement mom". That's the reason they fucked with her. Revenge. They just didnt think it would go that far. Because they were stupid. And I'm glad she killed them in the end. Fucking nitwit brats.

they wanted her to go all crazy, so when their dad comes and sees her that way he will have to acknowledge that she's not suitable to be their replacement mom and he'll sent her to an asylum.

It was still stupid as fuck, i mean to go for days freezing and barely eating just to fuck with her? also they pretty much killed her dog, so theres that... And it shouldn't take a fucking rocket scientist to figure out its not smart to fuck with a persons head that used to be in a cult that committed a mass suicide, and they was alone with her with no one to help them if she lost her shit.

I swear i don't know who was dumber in this movie the dad or his kids.

Yeah which is why the Dad should not have left her alone with the kids. The trip could have been a decent way to build their relationship if he was there to supervise, but leaving them alone with the woman they hate was a recipe for disaster. The setting wasn't helpful either, too soon for the kids.

I thought it was pretty clear that they did it because they hated her and blamed her for their mother's death. They're kids, aged 12 and 17. Kids do dumb shyte and at that age aren't thinking about consequences. Pretty sure they weren't thinking that she'd go completely nuts.

Well still at 12 and 17 you should know that nothing good could come of it. I mean the woman already went through an extremely traumatic experience that no one should ever be put through. Then the kids try screwing with her and think that will benefit them. I get they hate her, but this is taking it to an absurd level. Also the kids are basically partially responsible for the dog's death so it is very sorry to feel sympathy for them.

The kids weren't partially responsible, they let the dog out and it froze to death. And even if it didn't, the dog would have starved/gotten lost in the snow. That's when I started rooting for Grace.

Like mother like children, at some point the kids became suicidal I guess. Basically the movie was dumb and there was no convincing way to angle this concept. It was mostly an exercise in visual atmosphere, unbalanced compositions, symmetry, tight frames to long shots, etc, rather than just endless moronic jump scares. A few more bathroom scenes with Riley Keough would have been more effective though.

Because the dad was leaving mom for her.....mom killed herself.
It is obvious they do not want this woman in their lives.
Apparently they wanted to get rid of her and drive her to the loony bin, get the dad to bail on her because she is too whack or just to get her to willingly leave because she is so messed up.

Dad was an idiot though... the mom blows her brains out and then they go on a trip and he is feeling the replacement up in front of the kid. Dad was clearly a moron on all accounts.

THey get their "stupid" from the father, clearly. To execute that whole plan is as dumb as it is to leave your wife for a cult leader's child who taped the deaths and survived, and then send them all to a cabin in the woods in a blizzard and NEVER come back for Christmas.
