OMG this studio!

Universal has yet ANOTHER possible low budget hotplay on their hands.

May be the most phenomenally successful comedy in years.

Look out for this one, guys.

reply

Why do you think it will be a hit? It is the director's first feature film and there aren't any big stars in the cast. I'm not sure if the premise is going to interest a lot of people. Honestly, I don't see this making a ton of movie.

reply

Just from seeing the tv spots...my gut tells me..."Watch out for this one, guys."

reply

Which means it won’t be hot hot hot as you pretty much get it wrong with each prediction, this love affair with universal is embarrassing, you knock lion kings drops then claim that universal has hot play ? What a joke

reply

Ummm...The Lion King HAS had horrible drops domestically for a family film in the middle of summer.

reply

Ands it’s made over a billion yet you still bash it for having drops , is making a billion not good enough ?

reply

aaaannnnnd....wanna eat your words now?

LOLOLOLOLOLOL

Furiousstyles. Lol.

reply

What on earth are you going on about? Are you deluded ? Have u finally lost it ? What words am i eating ?

reply

You really prove yourself to be the biggest dummy on this board time and time again.

Try scrolling up and see what you posted 11 days ago.

reply

How much has it made then ? Its you that’s the dummy constantly mouthing off utter shit , people laugh at you , you’re a joke queen , so do tell us how much it’s made ?

reply

Told 'ya!

I had a feeling this was going to be a smash a two weeks ago!

reply

trailer made it look good.... and it was.

reply

looks like a shit film though..

reply

Which can mean that it will make a fortune. “Nobody ever went broke by underestimating the taste of the American public.” - H.L. Mencken

I agree that it’s prima facie a wretched idea. The multiple sequels will be worse.

reply

YUP.

Never overestimate general audiences. Especially for a low-budget Universal film.

reply

Shit sells and nobody sells it better than Universal.

reply

I think it made $2m Thursday night. I'll have to check critics and IMDb reviews.

reply

Heading for over 20 million weekend.

reply

Flop

reply

I went to it and there were SCORES of folks, and we ALL laughed!

reply

Yup...a smash hit.

reply

What you deem a smash hit but yet you criticise the lion king ???? Deluded

reply

The Lion King was heavily anticipated to be the second biggest film of the year (at least) and had a production budget of 260 million while no one was even talking about Good Boys less than a week ago and has a production budget under 20 million. Oh...well... Your's Truly was talking about it and predicting it to break out big, of course.

Understand the difference? Nah...you probably don't because you're...furiousstyles.

LOL

reply

What a fucking massive prick you truly are , do us all a favour and go away , lion king made over a billion , the figures aren’t even out for this movie and here you are gloating as if u own the studio.

reply

it was good

reply

Scores...what like 40, 60.. ?

First impressions are a bunch of teens swearing and behaving badly...wow...never seen that before, eh?

reply

"May be the most phenomenally successful comedies in years."

Lol...ummmm...was I right or was I right?

You're welcome.

reply

No not at all , it didnt gross that much , take away the marketing costs and this is meh , wrong again queen , not very food at this box office game are you , another loss for queen , leave the BO talk to people that understand what they are talking about , your to immature for this

reply

It's made over 91 million so far on a 20 million dollar budget so it broke even at 40 million dollars. Everything after that has been pure profit with much more to come.

Marketing costs don't subtract one red cent from the profits since they are covered by home media(according to billbrown).

reply

show me the evidence that this movie made money after 40 million

reply

Lol....well it's reported on boxofficemojo that the budget is only 20 million and billbrown says that marketing costs are covered by home media...sooo...

reply

But lionking made ove 500 domestically which is the same profit margin as good boys but you said thay was a dissapointment so surley you shoukd thibk the same as this movie ?

reply

The Lion King's budget was 260 million.

How is that the same margin domestically?

reply

One movie made 50 million profit , the other movie made 230 million profit domestically, which one is more profitable and successful ?

reply

Lol The Lion King made 230 million profit from domestic alone?

You're getting to be as bad as billbrown, furiousstyles.

reply

Queen lets face it , we all know your just a troll that is arrogant and out to antagonize people , you have been doing it for years , the lion king is more profitable than good boys domestically by a huge mile , on the one hand you say lion king domestically is a dissapointment, yet you praise good boys , yet lion king made millions more in profits, even after costs.

reply

So how much did it make queen and how much did good boys make if we are to take away marketing costs ?

reply

It made zero profits domestically.

reply

Using your own argument from this thread, with The Lion King now at $534-million domestic box office, that would give it a profit of $14-million domestic. I wouldn't call that "zero profits", if we are sticking to the rules you, yourself, have laid down in this thread. Not as much as Good Boys... but, oh yeah, there's that whole $1.1-billion vs. $18-million international thing.

And, The Lion King certainly isn't done yet: $3.7-million last weekend. It will probably take in another $10-million, total, by the time the theatrical run is done. So using your rules, I would think having a movie that was able to make a profit of close to $25-million, domestic alone, would be a huge success especially when you then get to count all the green coming in from a $1.1-billion dollar international haul.

Just playing by your rules.

reply

Understood...but they aren't my rules. They are billbrown's rules and I'm having a bit of fun with them.

So you're posting statements on the board that you don't believe in under the guise of "A bit of Fun"? Fun for who and fun to whom?

There's a word for that type of behavior...
There's a term for that type of tactic.....

There's a phrase for that type of activity.....

What's that word? Hmmmm, it escapes me for the moment. If only I could figure it out? It starts with a "T" and often ends in "ing" but it isn't twerking.

No, that's not it.

No, it's not Trawling. Close, but that's not it either. It'll come to me if I roll through more T words in my thoughts.

I'll leave it to others more efficient in language to figure it out. 😂

reply

Norrinrad...LOL.

Yes...in this case I am trolling someone. Fair enough...'ya got me.

No, no, no!!! The "T" word I was thinking of was Teasing, or it was Taunting??!!

But I'll go with what you stated.

reply

Hahaha!

;p

Who is the "Liar", what is it he/she is lying about, what reason do they have to lie and how is it you are going to prove or have already proven that the alleged Liar is indeed Lying?

reply

I dunno...maybe billbrown? "Confirmed reports" of a "special deal" Disney got with exhibitors for The Lion King?

Are you going back to SEC filings?

LOL

LOL
Where is the joke in that statement?

reply

Does it not say it all that since I've called billbrown out on this nonsense he has literally disappeared frtom these boards?

He KNOWS he was caught in an outright lie.

reply

Are you actually kidding me , are you that dense ? Do you do it when on purpose just to wind people up? If that’s the case then good boys lost money

reply

If the production budget is 260 MILLION and the marketing cost is at least 100 million then there is no way it made a profit from domestic alone.

reply

You have no idea what the marketing costs are and if I was to follow your rule of thumb then good boys didn’t profit either ,sorry to disappoint you as I know you hate to see Disney wiping the floor with your precious universal and WB

reply

You're right that I don't know exactly what the marketing costs were but it's widely known and reported that for big blockbuster movies ALL STUDIOS spend in the 100-200 million range globally. I have been assuming that the GLOBAL marketing costs for The Lion King was at least 100 million and that is actually a VERY CONSERVATIVE estimate in thas day and age.

You seem like an honest broker and you don't lie and fabricate stuff like billbrown does on these boards in order to "win" in arguments. I don't know if English is your second language, but if that is the case maybe the humorous/sarcastic tone of some of my posts is hard for you to pick up on? That's not a disparaging comment as I am not fluent in any other language than English.

reply

Dont patronize me queen , you have been doing this for years , have you even watched good boys out of interest?

reply

No...it looks horrible.

reply

Well... let's correct that little error and do a side-by-side comparison.

The Good Boys has made $91-million combined (domestic and international). Given a modest $20-million budget and a 2x multiplier, we see this movie has a global profit of $51-million. Not too shabby at all.

The Lion King has made $1.62-billion combined. Even with a big budget of $260-million, using the same 2x multiplier, we see this movie has a global profit of $1.1-billion.

Of course, I realize these are not the real numbers... I'm just using the same argument and same playing field that you have been using in this entire thread. I would say that, by the time the real accounting is done, The Good Boys is probably around the low $40-million mark in profit, while The Lion King is somewhere around $400-million in profit.

Now, I don't care which board room you are sitting in... but if someone told you that you could spend $20-million and get $40-million back (for a net gain of $20-million) or you could spend $260-million and get $400-million back, I will take the bigger return, any day and twice on Sunday! And if we want to use the scenario you've been using here, I would have spent $260-million to get $1.1-BILLION in return? Where do I sign?

reply

The movie was hilarious.i never ever thought I would watch a movie with a cast of teenagers that wood be as funny as this was
